Bowers, Hurst Earn Patriot League Honorable Mention Selections

WASHINGTON – A pair of Georgetown University football players have been named Patriot League Honorable Mention, as announced by the league office on Monday. Sophomore linebacker Wes Bowers (Fort Washington, Md. / Bishop McNamara) and junior placekicker/punter Brad Hurst (Helen, Ga. / White County) were both recognized for their performances against Campbell on Saturday.

Bowers finished with a game-high 18 tackles and added 3.0 tackles-for-loss (TFL) for 14 yards and one sack. He was a key part of the GU defense that kept a high-powered Campbell offense to just 13 points, 7-of-18 on third down conversions and 0-of-3 on fourth down attempts. Bowers' 18 tackles are tied for the third most ever by a Georgetown player the most in a game since Matthew Satchell (C'16) had 18 at Bucknell on Oct. 24, 2015.

Hurst connected on both of his field goal attempts, connecting on a career-long 45-yard kick as well as a 24-yard boot. Both field goals came within a minute of each other in the second quarter to give the Hoyas a 6-3 lead at halftime. Hurst also averaged 64.5 yards on two kickoffs, including one touchback, and he punted seven times with an average of 43.0 yards per punt. He placed two punts inside the 20-yard line and had a 65-yard punt, tied for the 10th longest in Georgetown history.

These are the second and third honorable mention selections of the season for the Hoyas, and the first career nods for both Bowers and Hurst. Bowers was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week last fall, while Hurst earned Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week after GU's season-opening win at Marist.

Georgetown will head back on the road to open a stretch of three-straight games against Ivy League opponents. The Hoyas will play at Dartmouth on Saturday, Sept. 15, with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Hanover, New Hampshire.
