Georgetown Travels to Philadelphia to Face Villanova and La Salle

WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University field hockey team is 5-0 after a big 7-0 win against LIU Brooklyn last Friday. The squad remains atop of the BIG EAST standings with 16 goals for and two goals against. Both UConn and Old Dominion also have perfect records. The Hoyas will travel to Philadelphia this week to face BIG EAST rival Villanova on Friday, September 14 and La Salle on Sunday, September 16. Georgetown remains unbeaten in its 2018 campaign and has scored 16 goals and allowed two. The squad averages 3.20 goals per game and freshman goalkeeper Ciara Weets (Springfield, Va. / Lake Braddock Secondary) has compiled 23 saves. Georgetown is currently ranked first in the country in save percentage (0.920), goals against average (0.40) and shutouts per game (0.80). Junior forward Lindsay Getz (Northfield, Ill. / Loyola Academy) was named to this week's BIG EAST Honor Roll after scoring two goals in the win over LIU Brooklyn. Getz has six points this season off of two goals and two assists. She follows sophomore Cami Osborne (Newtown Square, Pa. / Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) who leads the team with nine points off of four goals and one assist.

Villanova (2-3) is coming off a two-game losing streak against the University of Pennsylvania and Sacred Heart. Junior forward Megan Vermeil is leading the Wildcats with seven points off of three goals and one assist. Villanova starting goalkeeper Erika Miller has a 2.39 goals against average. Villanova was ranked seventh, one spot ahead of Georgetown, in the Preseason Coaches' Poll. Push back is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday.

The Blue & Gray continues its road swing and push back against La Salle (3-2) at noon on Sunday. The Explorers lost their last two matches in overtime to UC Davis and Longwood. Sophomore forward Rialee Allen is leading La Salle with nine points off of four goals and one assist. Following Allen is senior Megan Kida with seven points off of three goals and one assist. The Explorers are currently outscoring their opponents, 12-7.

After the weekend, the Hoyas will finish their four-game road swing against BIG EAST opponent Quinnipiac on Friday, September 21 and Brown on Sunday, September 23. The squad returns to Cooper Field to face Old Dominion on Friday, September 28.
