Hoyas Host James Madison on Thursday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the James Madison University Dukes on Thursday in a 7 p.m. matchup at McDonough Arena.  The Hoyas are currently 1-2 on the season, while the Dukes sit at a record of 3-1.

About the Hoyas
  • The Hoyas picked up their first win of the season with a 66-56 victory over Pitt on Saturday at the Petersen Events Center.
  • Graduate student Taylor Barnes led the Hoyas with 18 points in just her second game of the season, missing the previous contest due to an injury.
  • Anita Kelava's 14 rebounds were a season high for the Blue & Gray, she also added six points and five blocks.
  • The Hoyas outrebounded Pitt 42-38 and forced 11 turnovers while committing just nine.
  • Georgetown shot 43 percent (26-61) for the game, and the defense allowed just 32 percent (19-59) from the Panthers.
  • The Hoyas combined for nine blocks in the contest.
  • This will be GU's second home test of the season after falling to Richmond in a heartbreaker in the home opener 51-49.
  • The Blue & Gray will play three nonconference home games this season with two in November and one in December.
 
About the Dukes
  • James Madison downed St. John's this past weekend in a 76-73 victory at the Convocation Center.
  • For their efforts, senior Kamiah Smalls and freshman Kiki Jefferson swept the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) weekly awards.
  • Smalls averaged 19.5 ppg on the week with 14 in a loss to No. 8 Maryland and had 25 in the win over the Red Storm.
  • Jefferson had 12.5 ppg on the week leading the Dukes with 16 points against Maryland.
  • JMU was voted to win the CAA in the Preseason Coaches Poll, and Smalls was named the CAA Preseason Player of the Year.
 
Series History
  • The Dukes are a familiar foe after Georgetown faced JMU twice a season ago.
  • The teams met in mid-November in Harrisonburg as the Blue & Gray fell 69-57.
  • They played again in Virginia on March 31, 2019 in the WNIT quarterfinals as Georgetown lost 55-54.
  • The Hoyas are 3-4 all-time against JMU and 2-0 at home.
  • The last meeting in the District was a 62-59 victory during the 2008 campaign.
