Daniel Bucaro Named BIG EAST Attack Player of the Week

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University senior Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) was named the BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Attack Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. Additionally, sophomore goalie Owen McElroy (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood / Avon Old Farms) was selected to the weekly honor roll after the Hoyas won their season opener 13-10 against visiting Sacred Heart.

Bucaro scored a BIG EAST-best seven points (3G, 4A) in his first game back after suffering a knee injury late in the 2018 campaign. He posted the game-winning goal against the Pioneers and added a man-up goal to go with one ground ball and one caused turnover. With his triumphant return to the field, Bucaro moved into sole possession of eighth place all-time in career scoring at Georgetown with 146 points (95G, 51A) and moved up to 14th all-time in career assists.

In his first career start, McElroy posted 16 saves on the day including six in the fourth quarter. He earned his first career victory with the win and hauled in a pair of ground balls. McElroy helped the Hoyas hold Sacred Heart All-American and reigning NEC Player of the Year Max Tuttle (41G in 2018) to just one goal on Saturday.

The Hoyas are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 16 as they return to the friendly confines of Cooper Field for a matchup against Robert Morris at noon.
