WASHINGTON – Two members of the Georgetown University men's rowing team won their divisions at the C.R.A.S.H.-B. Sprints World Indoor Rowing Championships on Sunday, held at the Boston University Track & Field Center in Boston. The race required each competitor to row on a stationary rowing machine for the equivalent of 2,000 meters, the spring racing distance for collegiate and international racing.
In the lightweight division, it was junior
Reid Noch (Naples, Fla.) who took home the victory in a competitive field of 35 rowers. Noch came out fast, recording a 1:35.8 in the first 500 meters and was able to keep a steady pace throughout. With 500 meters left, Noch was able to pull away from the pack with a very impressive split of 1:33.2, finishing at 6:21.2 overall.
In the flyweight division, junior
Grant Draper (Palo Alto, Calif.) mimicked a similar race strategy to Noch's and posted very consistent 500 meter splits through the first 1500 meters until finishing strong with a split three seconds below his average. Overall, Draper finished with a time of 6:47.8.
The Blue & Gray is currently going through winter training as the squad prepares for the upcoming spring season. To begin the season, both teams will head to Princeton, New Jersey, as the lightweight team will face off against Delaware and Princeton on Saturday, March 23 while the heavyweights hit the water on Saturday, March 30 for the Princeton Annual Scrimmage.
