WASHINGTON – Georgetown University junior right-handed pitcher
Nick Morreale (Lake Elmo, Minn. / St. Thomas Academy / IMG Academy) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the league's office on Monday. It is the first set of weekly honors this season and recognizes Morreale's efforts in GU's opening weekend at the Wake Forest Invitational.
Morreale set a career high with nine strikeouts in 6.0-plus innings in his first start of the season on Saturday against Sacred Heart. He retired the first six batters and eight of the first nine overall, facing just three batters over the minimum through six innings.
This is the first career weekly honor for Morreale. Earlier this month, the junior was named as the 108th-best prospect on D1Baseball.com's Top 350 College Prospects list.
The Hoyas will return to North Carolina next weekend for a three-game series at Campbell University. First pitch in Friday's series opener is scheduled for 5 p.m. while Saturday and Sunday's contests will begin at 3 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
