WASHINGTON – Following a week's hiatus, the Georgetown University men's basketball team (15-10, 5-7 BIG EAST) returns to action on Wednesday as it hosts No. 17/16 Villanova (20-6, 11-2 BIG EAST) at Capital One Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and a link to live stats is available at GUHoyas.com.
The game can be seen live on FS1 with Gus Johnson calling the play-by-play and Bill Raftery serving as the color analyst. The game can be heard locally on The Team 980 radio station and SiriusXM channel 380/971 with Rich Chvotkin in his 45th season on the call.
The Hoyas are coming off a 90-75 loss at Seton Hall in Newark, New Jersey last Wednesday.
Jessie Govan (Queens Village, N.Y. / Wings Academy) led a duo in double figures as he scored 20 points while
Greg Malinowski (Chantilly, Va. / Episcopal / William & Mary) added 16 off the bench on 7-of-10 shooting. Govan's six rebounds were a squad best.
Josh LeBlanc's (Baton Rouge, La. / Madison Prep Academy) three rejections were a team best as the Hoyas tallied seven in the game.
Jagan Mosely (Marlboro, N.J. / St. Anthony) dished five assists to pace the offense.
Govan leads three Hoyas in double figures with 18.1 points per game while averaging 7.8 rebounds per game, ranking fifth and third in the BIG EAST, respectively.
Mac McClung (Gate City, Va. / Gate City) and
James Akinjo (Oakland, Calif. / Salesian College Preparatory) both add 13.1 ppg in the backcourt. LeBlanc ranks second on GU in rebounding, and fourth in the BIG EAST, with 7.4 boards a contest and continues to be efficient in the offensive zone ranking second in the conference in field goal percentage. Akinjo is second in the BIG EAST in assists with 127 on the season, averaging 5.1 apg.
Villanova dropped just its second BIG EAST game of the season with a 71-65 loss to St. John's at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. Joe Cremo led the Wildcats with 14 points while Phil Booth added 13 and both Eric Paschall and Saddiq Bey had 11. Paschall posted a double-double with 14 rebounds.
On the season, Booth paces the Villanova offense with 18.3 ppg and 3.8 apg. Paschall adds 17.3 ppg while Collin Gillespie chips in 11.3 ppg. Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree and Paschall share the VU lead in rebounding, hauling in 6.4 rpg each.
Georgetown and Villanova met earlier this season on Feb. 3 in Philadelphia with the Wildcats pulling out the 77-65 victory. Akinjo led three Hoyas in double figures as he tallied 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting.
Trey Mourning (Miami, Fla. / Ransom Everglades) followed up with 12 points while
Jamorko Pickett (Washington, D.C. / Massanutten Military Academy [Va.]) chipped in 10. LeBlanc led the squad with eight rebounds while Akinjo dished out a quartet of helpers to lead the team. Collin Gillespie led the Wildcats with 30 points.
Following Wednesday's game, the Hoyas hit the road once again as they travel to Omaha, Nebraska to face Creighton on Saturday, Feb. 23. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET.
