BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Georgetown University baseball team could not take advantage of six Campbell errors, falling 7-4 to the Camels on Friday evening at Jim Perry Stadium. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 0-4 on the season while Campbell moves to 3-2.
Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn. / Norwalk) went 2 for 4 with a home run and a pair of runs scored.
Freddy Achecar III (Atlanta, Ga. / Lovett School) hit his first career home run and
Yareb Martinez (Aldie, Va. / John Champe) had a pair of singles.
Jeremiah Burke (Delmar, N.Y. / Bethlehem Central / La Salle Institute) started on the mound and went 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks. He struck out a career-high seven.
Carter Bosch (McLean, Va. / Potomac) struck out one in 1.2 innings of relief and
Angelo Tonas (Hillsborough, Calif. / Sacred Heart Prep) had a strikeout in 0.2 innings.
Jacob Grzebinski (Bellaire, Texas / Emery Weiner) fired a scoreless inning with one strikeout.
Campbell took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but the Hoyas tied it off the bat of
Kyle Ruedisili (Jupiter, Fla. / The Benjamin School / Washington & Lee University) in the top of the third. Ruedisili launched a leadoff double off the left field wall for his first hit in a Hoya uniform. When the left fielder bobbled the ball, he took off for third and continued home when the relay throw went out of play.
The Hoyas took the lead with another unearned run in the top of the fourth. McCabe singled to lead off the inning and went to second when Achecar reached on catcher's interference. Two batters later, the Campbell catcher tried to pick off McCabe and the throw sailed into center field, allowing McCabe to come all the way around to score and give GU a 2-1 lead.
The Camels retook the lead with three two-out runs in the bottom of the fifth. Achecar got a run back in the sixth with a leadoff home run, the first of his career, over the right field fence to cut the deficit to 4-3.
Campbell added three more runs, two earned, off of Bosch and Tonas in the bottom of the seventh to extend its lead to 7-3.
McCabe got a run back for Georgetown in the top of the eighth, hitting his first home run of the season to the opposite field.
The Blue & Gray could not rally any further as the final score stood, 7-4.
The two teams will resume their three-game series on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. and live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com. Junior
