No. 16/18 Georgetown Hosts No. 9/7 Towson in Battle of Unbeaten Teams

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team closes out a three-game homestand to open the 2019 campaign with a showdown against fellow undefeated No. 9/7 Towson on Saturday afternoon. The Hoyas (2-0) take on their first ranked opponent of the season against the Tigers (2-0).

Saturday's action is set for a noon opening faceoff. Live stats and video will be available at www.GUHoyas.com with Jeremy Huber calling the play-by-play and Earl Brewer providing color commentary.

Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) and Jake Carraway (Annapolis, Md. / St. Mary's) both led the Hoyas with six points each. Bucaro tallied four goals and two assists while Carraway notched three goals and three assists. Carraway was named the BIG EAST Attack Player of the Week for his efforts after becoming the 25th member of the elite 100-Point Club with his first assist of the game.

Lucas Wittenberg (Kennesaw, Ga. / Harrison / Mercer) added four points (3G, 1A), Massimo Bucci (Ithaca, N.Y. / IMG Academy) had a career-high three points (1G, 2A) while Patrick Aslanian (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield), Robert Clark (Cooksville, Md. / McDonogh) and Dylan Watson (Guelph, Ontario / The Hill Academy) all added lone goals.

Defensively, Owen McElroy (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood [Avon Old Farms]) earned his second-straight win between the pipes with a 15-save performance. Bucaro leads the Hoyas in points (13), goals (7) and assists (6) on the season and owns both game-winning goals on the year. He currently has 99 career goals and is on deck to become just the eighth Hoya in program history to amass 100 in a career. Carraway is right on his trail with 11 points and is second on the squad with six goals and five assists. Wittenberg has logged seven points (5G, 2A) so far this season from the midfield.

On the defensive end, Aslanian leads the Blue & Gray with 11 ground balls and seven caused turnovers after transitioning to the defensive midfield as a senior. Gibson Smith (Pelham, N.Y. / Pelham Memorial) is second on the team with 10 ground balls and five CTs. In goal, McElroy has collected 31 saves in two games so far this season to go with a .596 goals-against average.

Towson has won back-to-back games to open the season, including a decisive 17-8 victory over then-No. 7/7 Johns Hopkins in the season opener and a 12-7 win at Mount St. Mary's. Brendan Sunday leads the Tigers with 10 points (7G, 3A) while Brody McLean adds nine points (8G, 1A). Alex Woodall has excelled at the 'X', winning 33 of 48 (.688) faceoffs to go with 24 ground balls. In goal, Tyler Canto has pulled in 28 saves and boasts a .651 save percentage with a 7.50 goals-against average.

Georgetown is 2-6 all-time against Towson including a 12-10 victory in Maryland last season. Bucaro led the Hoyas with four goals and a pair of assists while eclipsing the 100 career point mark in the game.

Following Saturday's game, Georgetown returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at Mount St. Mary's in its first road game of the season.
