Box Score WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University women's tennis team (2-5, 1-2 BIG EAST) was blanked by James Madison University 4-0 on Friday afternoon. With the win, JMU improves to 5-4 overall.
In doubles,
Sydney Goodson (Great Falls, Va. / Langley High School) and partner
Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) defeated the Dukes 6-2 at No. 1, but JMU secured the doubles point early, winning at No. 3 and No. 2. The duo of Goodson and Nakagawa is now 2-0 in the 2019 campaign.
At No. 1 singles,
Sofie Moenster (Oslo, Norway / Ordrup Gymnasium) was defeated 6-3, 6-4 while
Elena De Santis (Avellino, Italy / Convitto Nazionale P. Colletta) battled her opponent to three sets at No. 3 but ultimately dropped the next two sets for a 6-3, 3-6, 3-6 finish. JMU clinched the match at No. 2 singles as Abby Amos defeated Goodson in three sets 2-6, 6-4, 3-6. Amos handed Goodson her first loss of the season and she now holds a 5-1 record.
At No. 4, Nakagawa was leading her opponent 5-4 when the final point was secured. The remaining matches went unfinished.
The Hoyas will take the court on Saturday, Feb. 23 to square off against Drexel at the College Park Tennis Club. The match is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will immediately follow the men's matchup against the Dragons.
