Georgetown Heads to Mount St. Mary’s for Midweek Road Test

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team will play three of its next four games on the road, beginning with a road trip to face Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, Maryland on Tuesday afternoon. The Hoyas (2-1) are coming off their first loss of the season to then-No. 9/7 Towson while the Mountaineers (0-3) are still looking for their first win of the season.

Georgetown dropped its first game of the season with a 14-8 loss to the Tigers on Saturday. Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) led the Hoyas with three goals and an assist on the day for a team-high four points. His first goal of the game gave him 100 for his career, becoming just the eighth player in program history to reach the milestone. Jake Carraway (Annapolis, Md. / St. Mary's) added two goals while Massimo Bucci (Ithaca, N.Y. / IMG Academy), Robert Clark (Cooksville, Md. / McDonogh) and Jack Elders (Tiburon, Calif. / Redwood) all had lone goals. Lucas Wittenberg (Kennesaw, Ga. / Harrison / Mercer) was credited with three assists as well.

Defensively, Owen McElroy (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood [Avon Old Farms]) pulled in 11 saves for his third-straight double-digit save performance. Gibson Smith (Pelham, N.Y. / Pelham Memorial) posted team bests with six ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.

Bucaro leads the Hoyas in points (17), goals (10) and assists (7) on the season and owns both game-winning goals on the year. Carraway is right on his trail with 13 points and is second on the squad with eight goals and five assists. Wittenberg has logged 10 points (5G, 5A) so far this season from the midfield.

On the defensive end, Smith leads the Blue & Gray with 16 ground balls and is tied with Patrick Aslanian (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield) with seven caused turnovers. In goal, McElroy has collected 42 saves in three games so far this season to go with a .545 save percentage.

Mount St. Mary's is 0-3 to start the season and is coming off a 13-10 loss at UMBC. The Mountaineers also faced Towson earlier this season, falling 12-7 at home. Joe Bethke leads MSM with seven points (5G, 2A) while Chris DiPretoro (4G, 1A) and Jared McMahon (3G, 2A) both add five points. Sam Stephan has won 37 of 70 (.528) trips to the 'X' and leads Mount St. Mary's with 29 ground balls. In goal, Dylan Furnback had started all three games and collected 28 saves to with a 12.00 goals-against average and a .438 save percentage.

Georgetown is 18-17 all-time against Mount St. Mary's and has won back-to-back games in the series. In last year's showdown on the Hilltop, the Hoyas earned a 16-6 victory as Bucaro (3G, 1A) and Carraway (2G, 2A) both posted four points in the win.

Following Tuesday's game, Georgetown continues its road trek as its travels to take on Hofstra on Saturday, March 2 in Hempstead, New York at 3 p.m.
