WASHINGTON – Members of the Georgetown University track & field teams will split sites as one squad will travel to Ames, Iowa to compete in the Iowa State Classic, hosted by Iowa State, while the other returns to Boston for the Valentine's Day Invitational, hosted by Boston University, on Saturday. Both meets will span over two days starting on Friday. The first day of the Iowa State Classic kicks off at 6:30 p.m. E.T. for the men's 3,000-meter run. In Boston, the Hoyas will first see action starting at noon for the women's 60-meter hurdles trials.
Iowa State Classic Preview
The Hoyas will be featured in three different events over two days of competition. Sophomores
Jack Van Scoter (Pasadena, Calif. / Flintridge Prep) and
Matthew Bouthillette (North Providence, R.I. / La Salle Academy) will race in the men's 3,000-meter run against a talented field from schools including Illinois, Wisconsin, Northern Arizona and Kansas, which all rank in the top 30. Both Van Scoter and Bouthillette cracked the top five in the men's mile at the Penn State National two weeks ago as they finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
In the women's 5,000-meter race, graduate student
Josette Norris (Tenafly, N.J. / Tenafly) will look to continue her impressive streak of racing as she is coming off a strong first-place performance in the women's mile at Penn State. Sophomore
Paige Hofstad (New Braunfels, Texas / New Braunfels) will also be in the field looking to string together a solid race herself. Saturday will feature one race for the Hoyas as
Ruach Padhal (London, Ontario / John Paul II Catholic) and
Brennan Munley (Clarkson, Mich. / Waterford Mott) both compete in the men's 800-meter race.
Valentine's Day Invitational Preview
Taylor Williams (Hatboro, Pa. / Hatboro-Horsham) and
Cassidy Palmer (Bloomfield, Conn. / Bloomfield) highlight a competitive day of racing for the Hoyas as they hit the blocks for both the women's 60-meter and 200-meter dash. At the Villanova Invitational last weekend, Williams raced the clock in the finals of the 200-meter dash and was able to dominate the field to win with a season's best time of 24.43 seconds. In the women's mile,
Margie Cullen (Needham, Mass. / Needham) and
Kennedy Weisner (St. Mary's, Pa. / Elk County Catholic) return to action as they look to build momentum heading into the postseason later this month.
On the men's side,
Nate Alleyne (Downingtown, Pa. / Bishop Shanahan) will compete in the men's 400-meter dash coming off a third-place finish in the same event at the Villanova Invitational. The Hoyas will also have strong representation in the men's mile with
Jack Salisbury (Rumford, R.I. / La Salle Academy), All-American
Nick Wareham (Woodbury, Minn. / Woodbury) and All-American
Spencer Brown (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) leading the way. Brown and Salisbury posted top-10 finishes at the Scarlet and White Invitational in Boston last weekend while recording solid mile times.
The Blue & Gray will be back in action next weekend as separate squads will travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina and South Bend, Indiana for a pair of weekend invitationals beginning on Friday, Feb. 16.
