WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team plays its second-straight road game of the week as it travels to face Hofstra on Saturday afternoon in Hempstead, New York. The Hoyas head to Long Island with a 3-1 overall record while the Pride sit at 2-2 on the season.
Saturday's action is set for a 3 p.m. opening faceoff and will be broadcast live on LaxSportsNetwork with Travis Eldridge on the call and Finn Sullivan providing commentary. Live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
Georgetown is coming off a 13-11 road win at Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday afternoon.
Jake Carraway (Annapolis, Md. / St. Mary's) led the Blue & Gray with four goals and two assists for six points.
Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) and
Massimo Bucci (Ithaca, N.Y. / IMG Academy) both added three goals while
Robert Clark (Cooksville, Md. / McDonogh) chipped in two goals and two assists for four points.
Tucker Gillman (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shady Side Academy / Avon Old Farms) added his first career goal while
Lucas Wittenberg (Kennesaw, Ga. / Harrison / Mercer) posted a team-high three assists for the second-straight game.
Defensively,
Chris Brandau (Timonium, Md. / Boys' Latin) earned his first career victory between the pipes with a four-save performance off the bench. He entered the game tied at 9-9 and allowed just two goals in 28:16 of action.
Zachary Geddes (Winchester, Mass. / Belmont Hill / Phillips Andover) led all players with eight ground balls while
Gibson Smith (Pelham, N.Y. / Pelham Memorial) was credited with three caused turnovers and six ground balls.
James Reilly (Berwyn, Pa. / Conestoga) had a solid day at the 'X', winning 16-of-27 (.592) faceoffs. He added four ground balls and had one assist.
Bucaro leads the Hoyas in points (20) and goals (13) while ranking second in assists (7) on the season and owns all three game-winning goals on the year. He was recently named to the prestigious Tewaaraton Award Watch List for the second-straight season. Carraway is right on his trail with 19 points and is second on the squad with 12 goals and seven assists. Wittenberg has logged 13 points (5G, 8A) so far this season from the midfield and Clark joins them all in double figures with 10 points (6G, 4A).
On the defensive end, Smith leads the Blue & Gray with 22 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.
Patrick Aslanian (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield) adds eight caused turnovers. In goal,
Owen McElroy (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood / Avon Old Farms) has collected 44 saves so far this season.
Hofstra has lost back-to-back one-goal games to Villanova and Stony Brook following a 2-0 start to the season. Ryan Tierney leads the Pride with 13 points (11G, 2A) while White Stopak, James Philbin and Riley Forte all have five points. Brian Herber has won 43-of-81 (.531) faceoffs this year and leads Hofstra with 20 ground balls.
In goal, Bobby Casey has collected 43 saves to go with an 8.45 goals-against average and a .558 save percentage.
Georgetown is 5-3 all-time against Hofstra but the Pride won the last meeting, 11-9, on the Hilltop in 2017. The two teams were scheduled to play in 2018 but the game was canceled after a major snow storm hit the East Coast.
Following Tuesday's game, Georgetown returns home for another midweek game against Furman on Tuesday, March 6 at Cooper Field.
