WASHINGTON – Georgetown University center Jessie Govan (Queens Village, N.Y. / Wings Academy) was named All-District II by the U. S. Basketball Writers Association, as announced on Tuesday. He was also recently named All-BIG EAST First Team, the 26th Hoya to garner the accolade in program history.

Joining Govan on the All-District team are Shizz Alston of Temple, Tyus Battle of Syracuse, CJ Massinburg of Buffalo, Matt Morgan of Cornell, Eric Paschall of Villanova, Shamorie Ponds of St. John's, Myles Powell of Seton Hall, Lamar Carter of Penn State and Justin Wright-Foreman of Hofstra. Wright-Foreman was named the District II Player of the Year and his Hofstra coach, Joe Mihalich, was selected as the Coach of the Year.

Leading the Hoyas with 17.6 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per game, Govan is shooting nearly 50.0 percent from the floor and 41.3 percent from downtown. He adds 1.3 assists and 1.2 blocks per game as well. Govan was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll nine times this season. Govan was also recently selected as a finalist for the 2019 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award, recognizing the top center in men's college basketball.

In the BIG EAST, Govan ranks sixth in scoring, fifth in rebounding, as well as sixth in blocks and seventh in 3-point shooting. He has posted nine double-doubles on the season and recently eclipsed the 1,600 career point mark.

The Hoyas closed out the 2018-19 regular season 19-12 overall and 9-9 in BIG EAST play to finish tied for third place. Georgetown will be the sixth seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament Presented by Jeep and face third-seeded Seton Hall on Thursday, March 14 at 9:30 p.m. at Madison Square Garden in New York.
