WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team will conclude its tournament schedule for the 2019 season this weekend in the Buff & Blue Challenge hosted by George Washington. The Hoyas will play five games over the course of three days at the GW Softball Field at the GW Mount Vernon Campus.
The Blue & Gray will face Stony Brook, Oakland and GW beginning with a pair of games on Friday at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. against Stony Brook and Oakland, respectively. Live stats for this weekend's games will be available at GUHoyas.com.
Georgetown is 6-17 on the season after going 1-4 last weekend in the JU/UNF Spring Break Challenge in Jacksonville, Florida. The Hoyas won in their final game of the weekend against Charleston Southern 3-1. Junior
Noelle Holiday (Bear, Del. / Red Lion Christian Academy) and senior
Sarah Bennett (Owings, Md. / Northern) led GU in the victory with a total of three hits, including a double from Bennett.
For the season, Holiday leads the squad at the plate batting .344 (21 for 61) and a team high of three home runs and 18 RBIs. Freshman
Mae Forshey (Phoenix, Ariz. / Arcadia) has a team high of 23 hits and seven doubles while sophomore
Savannah Jones (San Rafael, Calif. / Terra Linda) has three triples on the season.
Stony Brook – Friday, March 15 (9 a.m.) and Saturday, March 16 (11 a.m.)
The Seawolves are 1-6 on the season and went 1-4 last weekend in the Florida Atlantic Parents Weekend Tournament. Stony Brook saw its lone win against Florida A&M with a dominant 11-1 outcome. At the plate, Melissa Rahrich leads the team batting .478 (11 for 23) to go along with a double, two homers and eight RBIs.
Oakland – Friday, March 15 (11 a.m.) and Saturday, March 16 (9 a.m.)
For the season, the Golden Grizzlies are 4-9 overall after dropping a pair of games on Wednesday in a midweek doubleheader at Bowling Green. Brittney Miller ranks among the top 10 in the country with a .526 batting average (20 for 38). Miller has three doubles, one home run and nine RBIs on the season and Shannon Carr leads the team with five doubles.
George Washington – Sunday, March 17 (11:00 a.m.)
The Colonials hold a 19-4 record and split a pair on Wednesday night in a doubleheader at Towson. George Washington fell 6-1 in the first game but bounced back with a 10-3 win in the later game. Sierra Lange leads the team with a .468 batting average (36 for 77) and has seven doubles, three triples, a home run and 17 RBIs on the season. Lange is tied for second in the country with 13 wins in the circle. Jenna Cone ranks second batting .429 (33 for 77) to go along with six doubles, 31 RBIs and nine homers, two of which were recorded in Wednesday's victory over Towson.
Sunday will be the third meeting between the Hoyas and the Colonials this season. Georgetown met GW in the season opener in the Gardner-Webb University Tournament and won 7-2 but fell later to the Colonials that weekend 11-2.
Following this weekend, the Blue & Gray will kick off BIG EAST play on Saturday, March 23 with a doubleheader against Creighton at Nats Youth Academy. The first game is scheduled for noon with another game following. The Hoyas will host the Bluejays again on Sunday at 11 a.m.
