Bucaro and Mazzone Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team had a pair of players earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors, as announced by the league office on Tuesday. Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) was named the Attack Player of the Week while Alex Mazzone (Stony Brook, N.Y. / Ward Melville) was selected as the Freshman of the Week. In addition, Gibson Smith (Pelham, N.Y. / Pelham Memorial) was named to the weekly honor roll.

Bucaro led the 14th-ranked Hoyas to a 13-10 win over Drexel, leading all scorers with six points (5G, 1A) including a hat trick in the first quarter. With his six points, he moved into fifth place all-time on the GU career scoring list with 184 points (121G, 63A), passing Georgetown Hall of Famer Scott Urick. Bucaro is now just six points shy of sole possession of second most points in program history.

Mazzone was part of a defensive until that was credited with 11 caused turnovers against Drexel. The Hoyas held the Dragons to just two second-half goals and blanked DU for the final 13:25 of the game. Mazzone added a pair of ground balls as well.

Smith anchored the Georgetown defense in the victory over Drexel. He led all players with three caused turnovers and hauled in a career-high nine ground balls.

Georgetown hosts Marquette on Saturday, March 23 at Cooper Field in the BIG EAST opener for both teams.
