WASHINGTON – Georgetown University women's lacrosse player
Francesca Whitehurst (Baltimore, Md. / Roland Park Country School) was added to the 2019 Tewaaraton Award Watch List, as announced by The Tewaaraton Foundation on Thursday. The Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States.
Whitehurst is a two-time All-BIG EAST honoree and two-year team captain. She is currently second on the team in scoring with 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points on the year. Additionally, she is second in draw controls with 26. Whitehurst is among the program's career leaders in both draw controls (162 – 4th) and assists (49 – 14th) in her career on the Hilltop. She suffered a season-ending injury early last year appearing in just eight games on the season.
This is her first nod to the watch list and the first for a Hoya since 2014.
Earlier this season, the foundation announced its Preseason Watch List comprised of 50 men and 50 women. These 20 additions are now added to the group of honorees for the committee to consider.
