WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's 14th-ranked men's lacrosse team begins BIG EAST play as it hosts Marquette to the Hilltop on Saturday. The game is the first of five televised games for the Hoyas down the stretch and will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN).

The Hoyas (7-1) are off to their best start since going 8-1 to start the 2006 campaign. Georgetown has won five-straight games and is coming off a 13-10 victory over Drexel.
Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) led all scorers with six points (5G, 1A) while
Jake Carraway (Annapolis, Md. / St. Mary's) added four goals. Bucaro was named the BIG EAST Attack Player of the Week for his efforts and Carraway was added to the 2019 Tewaaraton Award Watch List, joining Bucaro.
Bucaro moved into fifth place all-time on the GU career scoring list with 184 points (121G, 63A), passing Georgetown Hall of Famer Scott Urick. He is now just six points shy of sole possession of second most points in program history. Carraway moved up the all-time scoring list as well with his four-point performance. His 135 points (90G, 45A) puts him tied for 13th all-time with Neal Goldman. Carraway is now 10 goals away from becoming just the 10th Hoya to score 100 goals in a career.
On the defensive front, Georgetown was credited with 11 caused turnovers against the Dragons.
Gibson Smith (Pelham, N.Y. / Pelham Memorial) tallied three CTs to go with nine ground balls and was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Alex Mazzone (Stony Brook, N.Y. / Ward Melville) was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week as the Hoyas held Drexel to just two second half goals and held the Dragons scoreless for the final 13:25 of the game.
In goal,
Owen McElroy (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood / Avon Old Farms) recorded 14 saves in a full 60 minutes of action and moved to 6-1 on the season between the pipes.
On the season, Bucaro (29G, 16A) leads the Hoyas with 45 points while Carraway (26G, 17A) is right behind him with 43.
Lucas Wittenberg (Kennesaw, Ga. / Harrison / Mercer) adds 25 points (9G, 16A),
Robert Clark (Cooksville, Md. / McDonogh) chips in 24 points (16G, 8A) and
Massimo Bucci (Ithaca, N.Y. / IMG Academy) and
Declan McDermott (Pleasantville, N.Y. / Pleasantville) round out the Hoyas in double figures with 12 points (8G, 4A) and 10 points (5G, 5A), respectively.
Defensively, Smith leads the Blue & Gray with 47 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers while
Patrick Aslanian (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield) has 15 CTs. In goal, McElroy has collected 80 saves on the season with a .549 save percentage and a 9.97 goals-against average.
Marquette (4-3) is coming off of back-to-back victories against Robert Morris and Michigan after losing three straight. Tanner Thomson, the reigning BIG EAST Midfield Player of the Week, leads the Golden Eagles with 21 points (16G, 5A) while John Wagner adds 20 points (9G, 11A). Peter Henkaus has 16 points (13G, 3A), Andrew Romagnoli chips in 15 points (12G, 3A) and Connor McClelland has 12 points (7G, 5A). John Hulsman has posted a 4-1 record for MU and has hauled in 43 saves to go with a .430 save percentage and a 11.64 GAA.
Georgetown is 3-4 all-time against Marquette. The Golden Eagles have won the last three meetings, all by one goal, including a 9-8 overtime decision in Milwaukee last season. In all, five of the seven showdowns between the two teams have been one-goal affairs including two overtime thrillers.
Following Saturday's game, Georgetown heads west to take on No. 15 Denver on Saturday, March 30 in Colorado.
