WASHINGTON – Georgetown University women's lacrosse junior attacker
Michaela Bruno (Garden City, N.Y. / Garden City) and senior midfielder
Francesca Whitehurst (Baltimore, Md. / Roland Park Country School) earned BIG EAST Weekly Awards on Tuesday as Bruno was named the BIG EAST Attacker of the Week and Whitehurst earned BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week honors.
Bruno tallied six points off of four goals and two assists in a 1-1 week for the No. 22 Hoyas. The junior led Georgetown to a 20-11 win over UC Davis with two goals, two assists, a ground ball and caused turnover on Sunday, after scoring two goals off of three shots against then-No. 11 Loyola (Md.) on Wednesday.
Bruno is currently fifth on the squad in scoring with 12 goals and seven assists for 19 points on the season. This is the first attacker of the week award for the Hoyas this season and the first of her career.
Whitehurst stuffed the stat sheet for the Blue & Gray tallying seven points off five goals and two assists, nine draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. In GU's win over UC Davis, Whitehurst went off for five goals and an assist, along with seven draws.
Whitehurst is currently first on the squad in scoring with 18 goals and a team-high 15 assists for 33 points on the season. She is also second on the team in draw controls with 33. This is her second midfielder award this season and the sixth of her career. The Hoyas have earned three midfielder of the week honors in 2019.
The Hoyas open BIG EAST play on Saturday, March 30 as they travel to Indianapolis to take on the Butler Bulldogs. The opening draw is slated for noon. Live stats will be available at
