WASHINGTON –Georgetown University senior women's golfer
Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla. / St. Andrew's) has been named the BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Friday. The honor is the first of the season for the Hoyas and the fourth of Popowitz' career.
Popowitz was GU's top finisher, turning in a 2-over par 74 to finish in a tie for 17th place. The Hoyas finished in a tie for 10th at the weather-shortened River Landing Classic. Monday's second round was suspended due to darkness and then Tuesday's action was cancelled because of snow. The tournament, hosted by UNC Wilmington, at the River Landing Golf Club in Wallace, North Carolina, reverted to team's first round scores for the final standings.
The Hoyas will next be in action when they travel to South Carolina for the Briar's Creek Invitational, March 18-19. The tournament, which is hosted by the College of Charleston, will be held at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek in John's Island, South Carolina.
