Georgetown Hosts No. 16/14 Villanova on Sunday

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team welcomes No. 16/14 Villanova to the Hilltop on Sunday afternoon in BIG EAST action. The Hoyas are looking for their first win over a nationally ranked team this season.

Sunday's game is set for a 1 p.m. opening faceoff. The game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network with Brent Stover calling the action and Evan Washburn providing color commentary. Live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.

Georgetown is coming off a 16-14 midweek loss at No. 2/2 Loyola on Tuesday night. In the game, Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) became just the second player in men's lacrosse program history to amass 200 career points while Jake Carraway (Annapolis, Md. / St. Mary's) scored his 100th career goal.

Carraway led the Hoyas (8-4, 1-2 BIG EAST) with five goals and an assist while Bucaro added three goals and an assist. Massimo Bucci (Ithaca, N.Y. / IMG Academy) tallied five points with two goals and three assists while Dylan Watson (Guelph, Ontario / The Hill Academy) had two goals.

Defensively, Owen McElroy (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood / Avon Old Farms) collected 15 saves between the pipes and added five ground balls. James Reilly (Berwyn, Pa. / Conestoga) led the Blue & Gray with seven ground balls and Joe LiCalzi (Rockville Centre, N.Y. / South Side) had two caused turnovers.

On the season, Bucaro (41G, 21A) leads the Hoyas with 62 points while Carraway (37G, 23A) is right behind him with 60. Bucaro leads the BIG EAST in goal scoring while Carraway is the top assist man in the league.

Lucas Wittenberg (Kennesaw, Ga. / Harrison / Mercer) adds 33 points (14G, 19A), Clark chips in 31 points (19G, 12A) and Bucci has 20 points (11G, 9A). Declan McDermott (Pleasantville, N.Y. / Pleasantville) has 16 points (8G, 8A) and Watson has 12 points (11G, 1A) to round out those in double figures.

Defensively, Gibson Smith (Pelham, N.Y. / Pelham Memorial) leads the Blue & Gray with a BIG EAST-leading 61 ground balls and 20 caused turnovers while Patrick Aslanian (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield) has 19 CTs. In goal, McElroy has collected 136 saves on the season with a .523 save percentage and a 11.47 goals-against average.

Villanova (7-4, 2-0 BIG EAST) has won four-straight, including back-to-back league wins over Marquette and Denver. The win over the Pioneers was the first regular season conference loss for Denver since joining the BIG EAST in 2014.

Connor Kirst leads the Wildcats with 38 points (23G, 15A) while Keegan Khan adds 34 points (14G, 20A) and Matt Campbell chips in 33 points (23G, 10A). Corey McManus and Eric Overbay add 24 points (23G, 1A) and 15 points (7G, 8A), respectively.

Defensively, TJ Comizio leads the way with 18 caused turnovers and 48 grounds balls while Will Vitton has taken over between the pipes and has 93 saves, a .517 save percentage and an 11.07 GAA.

Georgetown is 14-20 all-time against Villanova, including a pair of wins on the Main Line last season. The Hoyas won the regular season match-up 13-11 behind six points (5G, 1A) from Bucaro and five points from Carraway (4G, 1A) while Smith hauled in eight ground balls. In the rematch at the BIG EAST Championship Semifinals, nine different Hoyas scored goals in a 13-10 victory for the Blue & Gray.

Following Sunday's game, Georgetown closes out its road schedule and nonconference slate as it travels to face NJIT on Saturday, April 20 in Newark, N.J.
