Cushing Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll; Hoyas at Navy on Tuesday

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University baseball team concludes its eight-game road trip on Tuesday evening when it makes the quick trip to Annapolis, Maryland for a matchup against Navy. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and live stats and a video stream will be available at GUHoyas.com.

The Hoyas (11-25) are coming off a series victory at Villanova last weekend, sweeping a doubleheader on Saturday to move to 2-4 in BIG EAST play. Matt Stone (Westport, Conn / Staples) had three hits, including his second home run of the season, and two RBIs in game one while Nick Morreale (Lake Elmo, Minn. / St. Thomas Academy / IMG Academy) struck out a career-high 12 in 6.0 innings to lead GU to a 4-2 victory in game one. Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas / Marcus) fired his first career complete game in the second contest with six strikeouts as the Hoyas again won by a 4-2 score. Kyle Ruedisili (Jupiter, Fla. / The Benjamin School / Washington and Lee University) homered and Will Salomon (Greenwich, Conn. / Brunswick) was on base four times with two hits and two walks.

Cushing was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for his efforts in Saturday's complete game win. He did not allow a hit until there were two outs in the fifth inning and gave up just two runs on five hits. He struck out six, becoming just the sixth Hoya in program history to reach 200 in his career and jumped over Brian O'Hare ('96) and Michael Gaggioli ('08) for fourth all-time in GU history with the 204 strikeouts.

For the season, Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn. / Conn.) leads the Hoyas with a .323 (43 for 133) batting average and is second on the team lead with 18 RBIs. Ruedisili has team highs of six home runs, 19 RBIs, 12 doubles, 28 runs scored, 10 stolen bases and a .548 slugging percentage. Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif. / San Ramon Valley) has hit two home runs and is second on the squad with 11 doubles and six stolen bases. As a team, Georgetown is batting .256 and has already surpassed last year's total with 24 home runs. The pitching staff has a 5.32 team ERA.

Navy enters the game with a 27-12 overall record and is coming off a 2-1 weekend at Lehigh to move to 13-4 in Patriot League play. Zach Stevens is hitting .366 (34 for 93) to lead the Midshipmen while Joe Simourian, the younger brother of Georgetown's John Simourian (Fort Washington, Md. / Bishop McNamara) is hitting .328 (22 for 67) and Michael Coritz is batting .310 (40 for 129). Christian Hodge has team highs of 10 home runs and 41 RBIs. As a team, Navy is batting .280 and the pitching staff owns a 4.03 ERA.

The Hoyas and Midshipmen met earlier this season with Navy coming away with a 12-3 victory at Shirley Povich Field. Alex Gamache (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest Academy) hit his first career home run in the loss.
