WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team continues a stretch of playing 11 of 12 games at Shirley Povich Field as it hosts George Washington on Wednesday evening for a midweek matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. and links for live stats and a video stream will be available at GUHoyas.com.
The Hoyas (13-26) are coming off a doubleheader sweep over Rider on Saturday during the team's bye week from BIG EAST play. The offense broke out to score double-digit runs in both games as GU won by scores of 12-7 and 10-9.
Kyle Ruedisili (Jupiter, Fla. / The Benjamin School / Washington and Lee University) led the way with four hits on the day including two doubles and his team-leading seventh home run of the year. He scored four runs, two in each game, and also drove in four.
Ryan P. Davis (Oak Hill, Va. / Oakton) homered in each game, including a pinch-hit three-run shot in game two that was part of a five-run seventh inning for the Hoyas to overcome a 9-5 deficit.
Nick Morreale (Lake Elmo, Minn. / St. Thomas Academy / IMG Academy) picked up the win in game one, going 6.0 innings, while
Jacob Grzebinski (Bellaire, Texas / Emory Weiner) earned the victory in game two with 3.0 innings of relief.
Ruedisili was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for his performance in the two wins on Saturday. It is his second honor roll nod of the year and the sixth of the season for the Hoyas.
Ruedisili was a force from the leadoff spot in Georgetown's two wins over Rider. He had three hits within the first three innings of game one, leading off the game with a double and scoring one batter later. Ruedisili also added a two-run double in the second inning as he finished with three hits, two runs scored and two RBIs in the first game. He led off game two with a solo home run, his team-leading seventh of the year which is the most by a Hoya since 2015, and added a sacrifice fly later in the game and scored in GU's five-run seventh inning that helped complete the sweep.
For the season,
Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn. / Conn.) leads the Hoyas with a .315 (45 for 143) batting average and is second with 19 RBIs. Ruedisili leads the Hoyas with seven home runs, 14 doubles, 32 runs scored, 23 RBIs, 11 stolen bases and a .579 slugging percentage. He is also second with two triples and a .286 (38 for 133) batting average.
Ryan Weisenberg (Parkland, Fla. / San Ramon Valley [Calif.]) is also batting .286 (36 for 126) while
Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif. / San Ramon Valley) has hit two home runs and is second on the squad with 11 doubles and six stolen bases. As a team, Georgetown is batting .260 and has already surpassed last year's total with 27 home runs. The pitching staff has a 5.53 team ERA.
George Washington enters Wednesday contest with a 22-18 overall record and is 6-9 in A-10 play after dropping two of three against Davidson last weekend. Dom D'Alessandro leads the Colonials with a .417 (65 for 156) batting average and is second on the team with seven home runs and 40 RBIs. Nate Fassnacht is batting .388 (64 for 165) with team highs of eight home runs, 18 doubles and 42 RBIs. Tyler Hix is batting .312 (49 for 157) and has 15 doubles and 40 RBIs. As a team, GW is batting .292 while the pitching staff owns a 5.42 ERA.
The two teams met earlier this year with the Hoyas coming away with their first win of the season, a 14-4 victory in Arlington, Virginia. In his first collegiate game,
Michael Willis (Baltimore, Md. / Gilman) was on base five times with four singles and a walk. He also drove in a pair of runs.
Ryan M. Davis had three hits, was on base four times and drove in four runs while scoring twice. Ruedisili was on base five times with two doubles and two walks while scoring four runs.
Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas / Marcus) made his first start of the season and went 7.0 strong innings, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out four and walking none.
Following Wednesday's game, the Hoyas will remain home to host St. John's in a BIG EAST Conference series this weekend at Shirley Povich Field.
