Hoyas Open Homestand Against UMBC Tuesday Night

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team returns home to Shirley Povich Field on Tuesday, closing the regular season with a four-game homestand beginning with a midweek matchup against UMBC. First pitch has been moved up to 4 p.m. and links to live stats and a video stream will be available at GUHoyas.com.
 
The Hoyas (19-33) are coming off a tough three-game series at Seton Hall, dropping all three games. Kyle Ruedisili (Jupiter, Fla. / The Benjamin School / Washington and Lee University) and Freddy Achecar III (Atlanta, Ga. / Lovett School) each led the offense with four hits and two RBIs apiece. Alex Rosen (Newport Beach, Calif. / Corona Del Mar) had three hits in Friday's series opener, finishing a home run short of the cycle.
 
For the season, Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn. / Norwalk) leads Georgetown with a .323 (61 for 189) batting average, is second with 26 RBIs and is one of four Hoyas with three home runs. Ruedisili leads the Hoyas with 11 home runs, 14 doubles, 39 runs scored, 28 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. Ryan P. Davis (Oak Hill, Va. / Oakton) is second on the squad with four home runs while Ryan M. Davis has hit three home runs and is second on the squad with 13 doubles and 10 stolen bases. As a team, Georgetown is batting .257 and has hit 38 home runs, the program's most since 2010. The pitching staff has a 5.29 team ERA.
 
UMBC enters Tuesday's contest with a 21-29 overall record and a 6-17 mark in America East play. The Retrievers are led by Terrence Pinkston who is batting .317 (57 for 180) with five home runs, 17 doubles and 29 RBIs. AJ Wright leads UMBC with six home runs, 19 doubles and 43 RBIs. As a squad, the Retrievers are batting .262 while the pitching staff owns a 6.43 ERA and opponents are hitting .303 against them with 43 home runs and 118 doubles.
 
The Retrievers have lost nine of their past 10 games, including a 6-1 Georgetown victory on May 1 in Catonsville, Maryland. Anthony Redfern (Andover, Mass. / Phillips Andover) picked up his first career victory as he started on the mound, going 5.0 innings and allowing just one unearned run while striking out four. Carter Bosch (McLean, Va. / Potomac) struck out four in two scoreless innings of relief. Achecar was on base three times and scored three runs. Tony Barreca (Long Grove, Iowa / North Scott) was on base three times with a walk, single and double and drove in a run while McCabe doubled twice and drove in a run. Ruedisili had two hits and stole two bases

Following Tuesday's game, the Hoyas will close out the regular season with a three-game BIG EAST series this weekend, Thursday - Saturday, welcoming Butler to Shirley Povich Field. First pitch is in Thursday's series opener is set for 7 p.m. while Friday's game will start at 6 p.m. and Saturday's finale is scheduled for noon.
