WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Women's Basketball Head Coach
James Howard has announced the addition of two student-athletes to the 2019-20 roster. Taylor Barnes (Memphis, Tenn. / St. Benedict at Auburndale / Memphis) will join the squad as a graduate transfer from the University of Memphis and Jillian Archer (Santa Monica, Calif. / Bishop Alemany / USC) comes to the Hilltop from the University of Southern California.
Barnes was a three-year letterwinner at Memphis appearing in 84 games with 76 starts to her credit. The point guard averaged 8.1 ppg, 2.9 apg and 3.1 rpg over her career with the Tigers. Off of the court, she was a member of the Dean's List and the Tiger Academic 3.0 Club. In high school, she was a four-year starter at St. Benedict at Auburndale being a three-time all-district, all-region and Commercial Appeal Best of the Preps honoree. Barnes was a Miss Basketball Finalist and the TSSAA Division 2-AA West Region Player of the Year as well as a Commercial Appeal Best of the Preps Player of the Year finalist. Her team won the TSSAA Division 2-AA West Region twice and advanced to the state semifinals.
The Memphis, Tennessee native played AAU with Team Penny and has five siblings. Her brother Adairius played football at LSU and played two seasons with the Detroit Lions.
"Taylor will bring much needed experience to our backcourt next year," said Howard. "She is a combo guard who can score from all three levels on the floor. She will bring leadership to a team that graduated three seniors."
Archer appeared in 18 games for the Trojans averaging 2.8 ppg and 3.1 rpg. In high school, the forward was a 2017 All-CIF First Team selection out of Bishop Alemany and also named San Fernando Valley Sun Player of the Year. She was all-league first team honors and received CIF Player of the Year Honorable Mention. In her senior season she averaged 16.4 ppg and 14.3 rpg.
The Santa Monica, California native played AAU with Cal Storm. ESPN Hoopgurlz listed Archer as a four-star prospect with a No. 59 overall ranking.
"Jillian will bring added experience to our forward position," said Howard. "Her high basketball IQ, athletic ability and leadership will allow us to solidify our back line defense. She is already a triple threat with the ability to score, rebound and block shots and we are looking forward to her time on the Hilltop."
