WASHINGTON – Three members of the Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad were named All-South Region by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coach's Association (IWLCA) on Tuesday. Senior midfielder
Francesca Whitehurst (Baltimore, Md. / Roland Park Country School) earned a spot on the first time, while senior attacker
Taylor Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) and junior defender
Katie Hudson (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y. / Cold Spring Harbor) both received nods to the second team.
Whitehurst led the Hoyas in scoring with 42 goals and a team-high 34 assists for 76 points. She also had a squad best 82 draw controls and 10 caused turnovers. Whitehurst was the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year for the second time in her career and a unanimous BIG EAST First Team selection. She is second in career draw controls with 218 along with ranking sixth in career assists (69), 19th in goals (105) and 12th in points (174). Whitehurst is the only player in program history with 200 draws and 100 goals in their career. This is her second all-region award and first nod to the first team.
Gebhardt was a unanimous BIG EAST First Team selection marking the third All-BIG EAST award of her career and the second unanimous nod to the first team. Gebhardt was second on the squad in scoring with 50 goals and 19 assists for 69 points to her credit. She is among the top 10 in both career goals (166) and points (216). This is her first all-region honor.
Hudson was a unanimous First Team All-BIG EAST honoree after a solid season on the backline. The junior moved into the starting lineup midway through the year and was second on the team in caused turnovers with 23 to her credit. Following some big performances, she was named the BIG EAST Defender of the Week on April 16 after scoring her first-career goal in a win at Villanova.
This is her first all-region honor.
Georgetown finished the 2019 season with 12 wins as well as a BIG EAST Championship and the first trip to the NCAA Tournament Second Round since 2014.
