WASHINGTON– Georgetown University Head Field Hockey Coach
Christy Longacre has promoted
Kelsey Smither to the Associate Head Coach as of May 2019.
"I can't put into words how excited I am to announce that Kelsey has been promoted to Associate Head Coach," said Longacre. "For the previous three and a half seasons that we have worked together, Kelsey has always been more than an assistant. She does above and beyond what an assistant does whether it is on or off the field. I trust nobody more with this decision and this team than I do with Kelsey. Her knowledge, commitment and passion for field hockey and this program are what makes this team function and there is nobody more deserving."
During her first season on the Hilltop, Smither helped the team reach an 11-7 record, the first time since 2001 that the team has posted over 10 wins in a single season and the first time since 2002 that the team finished the regular season with an over .500 record. In September, the Hoyas defeated No. 16-ranked Old Dominion, marking the program's first win against a ranked opponent.
This past season, Smither worked with the goalkeepers, forward and midfielders who helped Georgetown finish fourth in the BIG EAST in goals against average (1.88) and third in goals scored (2.33). Additionally, four Hoyas were recognized by the league during the season for their outstanding achievements while 13 student-athletes were named to the NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad.
