Whitehurst Named Second Team All-American

WASHINGTON –  Senior midfielder Francesca Whitehurst (Baltimore, Md. / Roland Park Country School) earned All-America honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coach's Association (IWLCA) on Wednesday.  The midfielder was named to the second team marking the first All-American award of her career.  The recognition comes after being named First Team All-South Region earlier this month.

Whitehurst led the Hoyas in scoring with 42 goals and a team-high 34 assists for 76 points.  She also had a squad-best 82 draw controls and 10 caused turnovers.  Whitehurst was the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year for the second time in her career and a unanimous BIG EAST First Team selection.  She is second in career draw controls with 218 along with ranking sixth in career assists (69), 19th in goals (105) and 12th in points (174).  Whitehurst is the only player in program history with 200 draws and 100 goals in their career.

The award marks GU's first All-American since 2013 when Ashley Hunter and Caroline Tarzian were recognized.  It was the first second team honoree since Sophia Thomas in 2012.

Georgetown finished the 2019 season with 12 wins as well as a BIG EAST Championship and the first trip to the NCAA Tournament Second Round since 2014.
