WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University field hockey team (5-3) will return to league play on Friday, Sept. 27, looking for their first ever win against Quinnipiac (2-5). The Hoyas will end the weekend at American University (3-4) on Sunday, Sept. 29, for a nonconference battle against the Eagles. About The Hoyas
Georgetown is looking jumpstart its standing in the BIG EAST conference this weekend, already at 1-0. The Hoyas are 5-3 overall, coming off a 2-0 weekend highlighted by a 3-2 win against rival Villanova and a 2-1 win against La Salle. Senior Michaela Bruno recorded two goals, scoring Georgetown's second goal against the Wildcats and the opening goal against La Salle. Bruno was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her contributions to GU's offense.
Senior Lindsay Getz leads Georgetown with nine points heading into the weekend and Bruno slides up to second with seven points. Freshman Ellie Maransky has five points and junior Cami Osborne stays in the top three tied with Maransky after scoring on a penalty corner from junior Ali Cronin against Villanova. Sophomore Ciara Weets holds the BIG EAST lead with 44 saves, 12 more than her runner-up. GU has attempted 79 shots through eight games, 52 have been on goal and 15 of those attempts found the back of the cage. Opponents have attempted 88 shots with 57 shots on goal against the Hoyas.
Scouting Quinnipiac
Quinnipiac is 2-5 this season and 0-1 in conference play. The Bobcats enter their second conference game looking move past a 5-0 loss to UConn. In their last outing, the Bobcats responded to the loss to the Huskies by shutting out Vermont 1-0. Senior midfielder, Bianka Strubbe has nine points on the year behind four goals. Quinnipiac has been outscored 18-7 by opponents and opposing teams are averaging 17 shots to the Bobcats' 11.
Quinnipiac is 3-0 all-time when facing the Hoyas. GU came up short last season, with the Bobcats winning 2-1.
Scouting American
The Eagles are 3-4, looking to get back in the win column. AU lost its game to UC Davis 1-0 and the Eagles will begin Patriot League play at home against Bucknell before welcoming Georgetown. AU is led by Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year favorite Noor Coenen. Coenen is off to a great start this season, racking up 14 points on five goals and four assists. Coenen's four goals came against Towson and she was awarded Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week and teammate sophomore Georgia Davies was selected Defensive Player of the Week for her performances against Towson and James Madison.
AU has outshot its opponents 87-49, hitting their target 52 times and more times than the opposition has attempted shots.
