Hoyas Fall 2-1 at American

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University field hockey team dropped to 5-5 after Sunday's showdown at American (5-4). The Eagles came back late in the fourth quarter to pick up the 2-1 win. The Hoyas' lone goal came from junior Cami Osborne, who scored on a pass from junior Jax van der Veen. Freshman goalkeeper Megan Mayes was strong in her first career start for the Hoyas, stopping five shots.   

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • GU scored with under three minutes remaining in the third quarter on Osborne's goal.  

  • Mayes pitched a shutout in goal in the first three quarters for the Hoyas

  • American forward Jette Dieckmann scored two minutes into the fourth quarter to tie the game at 1-1. Aidan Rossman was credited with the assist. 

  • AU's Hannah Moser scored on a long pass from Dieckmann to give AU a 2-1 lead late in the fourth

 

OF NOTE

  • The Eagles had 14 shot attempts to the Hoyas' five.

  • American attempted 12 penalty corners while GU only attempted two .

 

UP NEXT

Georgetown will travel to Virginia next week when they take on Old Dominion at L.R. Hill Sports Complex on Oct. 4 followed by a nonconference match at Busch Field against William & Mary on Oct. 6.
