Georgetown Travels to St. John’s and Seton Hall

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will continue BIG EAST Conference play this weekend traveling to New York to take on St. John's on Friday at 7 p.m. before battling Seton Hall on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Walsh Gymnasium. The Hoyas are currently 4-9 overall on the season and 1-1 in BIG EAST play after the first pair of games.

About the Hoyas
  • The Hoyas are coming off of a 62-53 conference victory over Providence on Tuesday afternoon.
  • Graduate student Taylor Barnes and sophomore Tayanna Jones led the team with 14 points apiece, while senior Marvellous Osagie-Erese added 11 points to round out those in double figures.
  • Senior Anita Kelava had a team-high eight rebounds, while Osagie-Erese was second with six and a team-high four assists.
  • Georgetown shot 65 percent (13 for 20) from the charity stripe and 36 percent (21 for 58) from the field. Providence shot 27 percent (3 for 11) from the free throw line and shot 37 percent (20 for 54) from the field.
  • The Hoyas outrebounded the Friars 41-35 and caused 16 turnovers to their 10.
  • In the BIG EAST opener, GU fell to Creighton 65-56.
  • Barnes leads the team with 12.0 ppg as the lone Hoya averaging in double figures.    
  • Kelava has been tough on the glass averaging 6.5 rpg.
 
About the Red Storm
  • St. John's is 9-4 overall and 2-0 in BIG EAST play with wins over Xavier (75-67) and Butler (67-42) to begin conference matchups.
  • The squad has three players averaging in doubles figures with Qadashah Hoppie leading the way with 16.9 ppg, and Leilani Correa (14.3 ppg) and Alissa Alston (10.5) right behind.
  • The Red Storm was selected to finish second in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches Poll and had two players named Preseason All-BIG EAST in Hoppie and Tiana England.
 
St. John's Series
  • The Hoyas are 29-35 against St. John's and 11-19 on the road.
  • Georgetown has struggled against the Red Storm in recent years snapping a 10-game losing streak with an 82-80 win at McDonough Arena a season ago.
  • GU's last win in New York was a 64-48 victory during the 2008-09 campaign.
  • The Hoyas have won just two of the past 16 meetings.
 
About the Pirates
  • Seton Hall is 9-4 on the year and a perfect 2-0 in BIG EAST play defeating Butler (67-62) and Xavier (83-61) on the road earlier this week.
  • Freshman Mya Jackson scored a career-best 25 points in her home state in the win at Xavier.
  • SHU has won its last four games going into this weekend.
  • The team has four players averaging in double figures led by Desiree Elmore averaging 14.6 ppg, she is also second on the glass with 7.5 rpg.
 
Seton Hall Series
  • Georgetown is 29-37 all-time against the Pirates and 9-19 in New Jersey.
  • Last year, the teams split as GU won 51-43 at McDonough Arena, but fell 76-63 at Walsh.
  • The last Hoya victory in the Garden State was a 77-60 win during the 2016-17 season.
