Georgetown Opens BIG EAST Slate Against No. 9/6 Villanova

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team opens BIG EAST play on Friday night, hosting No. 9/6 Villanova at McDonough Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

  • Friday's game can be seen live on FS1 with Scott Graham calling the play-by-play and Donny Marshall providing analysis.
  • The game can be heard locally on The Team 980 as well as SiriusXM 381 and Radio.com with Rich Chvotkin in his 47th season on the call.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas are coming off an 80-48 victory over Coppin State on Tuesday night.
  • Jahvon Blair led all players with 22 points on 6-of-10 shooting. He hit four shots from 3-point territory while adding five rebounds and four assists.
  • Jamorko Pickett posted his fourth career double-double with 19 points and a career-high 18 rebounds. He shot 8-for-11 from the floor and knocked down a pair of threes.
  • Chudier Bile rounded out the double-digit scorers with 13 points off the bench to go with eight rebounds.
  • Georgetown outrebounded the Eagles 53-29, marking the second time this season the Hoyas have surpassed 50 rebounds and had at least a +20 rebounding margin.
  • The Blue & Gray knocked down 10 3-pointers, which is the third-straight game with at least 10 treys.
  • Through four games, Blair leads the Hoyas in scoring with 20.3 ppg, while Pickett is averaging 14.3 ppg and pulling down a league-leading 10.0 rpg.
  • Qudus Wahab is also in double figures with 11.0 ppg and is also second with an average of 8.0 rpg. Jalen Harris is pacing the offense with 7.0 apg.
  • The Hoyas lead the BIG EAST in rebounding (48.0 rpg) and 3-pointers per game (9.5).

SCOUTING VILLANOVA
  • Villanova enters Friday's matchup with a 4-1 overall record, coming off a 68-64 victory on the road at then-No. 17 Texas in the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle.
  • The Wildcats average 77.4 ppg and are shooting 47.3 percent from the floor while their opponents are scoring 67.8 ppg and shooting 44.4 percent.
  • Jeremiah Robinson-Earl leads Villanova in scoring (16.2 ppg) and rebounding (9.0 rpg).
  • Collin Gillespie (14.6), Justin Moore (14.2) and Caleb Daniels (11.6) round out those in double figures, and Gillespie has a team-best 21 assists.
 
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
  • Friday will be the 87th all-time meeting between the longtime BIG EAST rivals with the Hoyas holding a 44-42 series advantage.
  • Last season, the Hoyas fell to Villanova 80-66 in Philadelphia before dropping a heart-breaking 70-69 decision at Capital One Arena to close out the regular season.
  • Wahab had a career-best 13 points off the bench in the first meeting, and Pickett averaged 16 points in the two matchups, including a 20-point performance in the regular season finale.
  • Patrick Ewing is 1-4 against Villanova as GU's head coach and was 7-3 during his playing career.
 
COMING UP NEXT
The Hoyas will remain at home on Sunday to host St. John's in a 7 p.m. matchup at McDonough Arena. The game will be broadcast live on FS1. The St. John's-Georgetown matchup was formed because of COVID issues involving Connecticut, the original opponent.
