Hoyas Wrap Up Tournament Play at Cherry Blossom Classic

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team will play in its final nonconference tournament of the season this weekend at the Cherry Blossom Classic, hosted by local rival George Mason. The Hoyas will play two games each against Monmouth and Maryland and one game against the Patriots at the George Mason Softball Complex in Fairfax, Virginia.

About the Hoyas
  • The Blue & Gray (8-15) is coming off of a 3-2 weekend at the UNCW Softball Invitational. Georgetown downed North Dakota twice in 4-2 and 6-4 victories and also defeated UNCW 14-6.
  • Junior London Diller was credited with all three wins in the circle and was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on Monday. She registered a 2.72 ERA, allowed nine runs from 16 hits and struck out 11 batters.
  • Sophomore Mae Forshey was named to the league's Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for her efforts over the weekend. She went 9-for-16 at the plate and tallied three doubles, a home run and seven RBIs while scoring four runs.
  • Forshey leads the squad this season with a .451 batting average (32-for-71) and 10 doubles. Junior Savannah Jones has a second best 18 hits, five doubles and five home runs. Additionally, senior Noelle Holiday has 13 hits on the season and a team-high seven homers and 18 RBIs.
  • Diller holds a 2.95 ERA and has given up 43 runs off of 59 hits in 76.0 innings of work while striking out 78.
 
About the Tournament
  • The Monmouth Hawks are off to an 11-9 start to the season and went 2-3 last weekend at the Buff & Blue Challenge, including an 8-0 shutout against Rider. Kayla Rosado leads her squad with 28 hits on the year, including four doubles and four homers while tallying 23 RBIs.
  • The Terps are 12-11 on the year and have won four of their last five games, allowing a combined six runs in those last five. Anna Kufta is 28-for-66 at the plate with a team-high eight doubles and 12 RBIs. Freshman pitcher Trinity Schlotterbeck earned Co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors on Monday after going 3-0 last weekend with a 0.97 ERA inside the circle.
  • George Mason holds a 7-12 record after its four-game win streak was snapped on Wednesday night in a midweek nonconference matchup against Virginia Tech 12-1. Adriana Erickson leads the Patriots with three doubles, a pair of homers and 12 RBIs.
