WASHINGTON – Sophomore
Mae Forshey of the Georgetown University softball team (5-13) was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for the first time in her career, announced Monday by the league. The sophomore catcher helped the Hoyas go 2-1 over the weekend in the Colonial Classic, hosted by George Washington.
The honor marks the first recognition for GU this season and the second of Forshey's career. She was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll during her rookie season.
Forshey started all three games for the Blue & Gray this weekend behind the plate. She went 7-for-10 on the weekend and tallied four doubles, scored three runs and brought in a pair of RBIs. In Sunday's 9-1 victory over Morgan State, Forshey recorded two doubles and brought in two runs.
The sophomore leads the Hoyas this season with a .418 batting average (23-for-55) and has a team-high seven doubles.
The Blue & Gray will return to action on March 6 in the UNCW Softball Invitational in Wilmington, North Carolina. Georgetown will play five games over the course of three days. Live stats for all games will be available at GUHoyas.com.
