With the 2020 spring season coming to an abrupt end, members of the women's lacrosse squad will be sharing their thoughts and what the sport means to them over the coming weeks. This week we're hearing from senior, Michaela Bruno.
Dear Lacrosse,
After twelve years, you would think I would have the words to address this moment. But with all you have given me, the words do not come easy. Because of you, I have grown. You instilled confidence in me at a young age, giving me an outlet for my competitive drive and unwavering desire to succeed. You provided me with role models to chase and goals to achieve. Best of all you introduced me to incredible people.
I am so grateful for the coaches you have brought into my life. They have shaped me into the individual I am today. Each one taught me important lessons which translate into life outside lacrosse. On the field, they pushed me to new heights. They demanded more each and everyday, ensuring that even when I was at my limit, there was more work to be put in. Off the field, they taught me about commitment, integrity, and sacrifice, molding me into a better person.
Yet your greatest gift to me was my teammates. Together, we endured long conditioning session, grueling lifts, and biting losses. We faced hardship and came out the other side bonded. These teammates have become lifelong friends and have made every experience more enjoyable. I cherish the moments we shared getting pumped up in the locker room, focusing in during 'Moment', digging in for the final seconds of a game, or just simply hanging out together. These girls taught me what it means to be fully present – to give 100% of your being and play for something bigger than yourself. Thank you for bringing them into my life.
Although this sounds like a goodbye, it is not. The future is uncertain, but I know for a fact that no matter where my path may lead you will always be in my life. You have supplied me with more blessings than I can count and I am eternally grateful.
Sincerely,
Michaela
