WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Head Football Coach
Rob Sgarlata has announced the signing of 10 players to National Letters of intent and has added one transfer to the incoming class of 2022 as part of college football's Early Signing Day. The 11 student-athletes will come to the Hilltop as members of Georgetown's Class of 2026 and will join the Hoyas for the Fall 2022 Season.
"I am extremely excited to welcome the newest members of the Hoya Football Family," Head Coach Sgarlata said. "Our goal is to bring talented, true student-athletes to the Hilltop. I am grateful to our staff for their hard work and dedication. This is a group of extremely motivated individuals who have excelled on and off the field. Georgetown will provide them with a unique opportunity to improve each day both academically and athletically as they continue their journey."
The 11 newcomers hail from eight different states on the East Coast. Overall, the group includes six offensive players and five on defense.
ALPHA BARRY - DEFENSIVE BACK
Barry attended the St. George's School in Newport, Rhode Island. he helped St. George's knock off Tilton in the Ken Hollingsworth Bowl Game, 21-20. Named a team captain and earned First Team All-Independent School League (ISL) and All-New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) honors in football as well as being a three-sport varsity athlete. Barry did it all in his senior season, compiling three interceptions and breaking up 12 passes on defense while registering 700 all-purpose yards and 10 touchdowns on offense. His cousin Alpha Diallo played basketball for Providence while his other cousin Mo Diallo currently plays on the hardwood for Stony Brook.
"Alpha is a long corner with exceptional speed and coverage skills. He has a knack to disrupt the football and create turnover opportunities. Alpha has the versatility to play all secondary positions and will be a valuable addition to the defensive secondary."
MICHAEL BURTON – OFFENSIVE LINEMAN
Burton attended Brunswick High School in Greenwich, Connecticut alongside fellow 2022 commit
Danny Lauter. The newest Hoya earned First Team All-New England and All-Northeast Football Prep Conference selection in his senior season. Burton is the son of former UConn captain and starting center, Michael Sr. The offensive lineman has also been a participant in three Bowl games, including a 2019 win in the Todd Marble Bowl, and is a shot put thrower.
"Michael is a very athletic interior offensive lineman. He has a tremendous work ethic and is a workhorse in the weight room. He plays with an attitude and is a great puller."
WEDNER CADET – DEFENSIVE BACK
Cadet attended Deerfield Academy as a postgraduate student after his tenure at Wellesley High School in Wellesley, Massachusetts. While attending Deerfield Academy, the defensive back was a First Team All-NEPSAC and Defensive All-League honoree. He also added a NEPSAC championship to his resume when he helped Deerfield to a Mike Silpo Bowl win in 2021. Cadet is also a three-sport athlete, competing in basketball and track & field.
"Wedner is a lockdown corner that possesses a combination of both length and speed. Wedner disrupts the timing of routes while in press coverage and has great quickness and ball skills to break on balls while playing off coverage. He will add athleticism to the defensive back room."
JOHN CARAMANICO - DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
Caramanico attended Cardinal Gibbons in Raleigh, North Carolina. The 6-foot-1 defensive lineman compiled 88 tackles, 5.0 sacks and forced 38.5 lost yards behind the line of scrimmage in 22 games. He helped Cardinal Gibbons to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4A championship in 2021. Caramanico also wrestles, logging two seasons for the Crusaders.
"John is a strong run defender with an impressive combination of athletic ability and size. He plays with relentless effort and is always around the football. John will be a great addition to the defensive front."
MATEEN IBIROGBA - DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
Ibirogba attended Clarksburg High School in Clarksburg, Maryland. Earned an All-Montgomery County First Team selection as a defensive lineman and captured team MVP in his 2021 season. The 6-foot-4 newcomer hurried the quarterback 16 times, registering four sacks while adding 60 total tackles, 12 of which were for a loss.
"Mateen is a big, explosive athlete. He has an outstanding initial burst which makes him disruptive against the run and a natural pass rusher. He has a unique combination of physical skills and high motor that will make him an asset on our defensive front."
CAHLEDE JACKSON - DEFENSIVE TACKLE
Jackson attended Chaminade-Madonna High School in Hollywood, Florida. The 6-foot-1 defensive tackle captured the 3A Florida State Champion in 2021, helping his squad to a 21-0 victory as the top seed in the bracket. He was an active member of one of the top defenses in the country that held the opposition to a combined three points in 16 playoff quarters. Off the field, Jackson has thrived in the classroom, making A/B Honor Roll all four years.
"Cahlede is a big, quick interior defensive lineman. He will bring a certain toughness and high IQ to the room that we love to recruit. His combination of strength and quickness allows him to be disruptive against the run and an effective pass rusher."
JIMMY KIBBLE – WIDE RECEIVER
Kibble attended Loudoun County High School in Leesburg, Virginia. Kibble also served as the team's punter, securing a 2019 First Team All-Virginia High School League (VHSL) Class 4 All-State honor in the position.
"Jimmy is extremely competitive. He will be a weapon on the inside and outside. We are very excited about his versatility. He is a proven playmaker who will create matchup problems for defenses in our pass game. Another impact player from the DMV who will be an immediate asset in the wide receiver room."
DANNY LAUTER - QUARTERBACK
Lauter attended Brunswick High School in Greenwich, Connecticut. As a junior, Lauter earned a spot on the U.S. Under-18 Select National Team and played in the 2020 High School International Bowl at AT&T Stadium, recording 41 passing yards and two total touchdowns. Also played outfield and third base for the Brunswick baseball team.
"Danny has all the tools needed to excel in our style of offense. He possesses an elite arm talent with a great mix of agility and athleticism that is required to play QB at this level. He is a proven leader and competitor who had great success in both football and baseball at the high school level. I am extremely excited to see him continue to develop on the Hilltop."
CARTER PHILLIPS – WIDE RECEIVER
Phillips attended Landon High School in Bethesda, Maryland. The 6-foot-3 pass catcher earned a spot on the All-Interstate Athletics Conference (IAC) First Team as a tight end in 2021. Phillips also captured All-IAC First Team honors on the track with a 200m title in his junior year.
"Carter possesses a combination of speed, change of direction and ball skills that make him a major threat to win on the deep balls. He is a technician who plays with an elevated attention to detail that is on display in his footwork and technique."
KEYNAN RICHARDSON-COOK – WIDE RECEIVER
Richardson-Cook attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, West Virginia. The three-year letterwinner set school records for most receptions and touchdowns in a single game, season and career. Earned a First Team Class AAA All-West Virginia selection while being named Lootpress Wide Receiver of the Year. Keynan is also a three-sport athlete, serving as a team captain for the school's basketball and track & field teams and making state championship appearances in both sports.
"Keynan is a tall, athletic skill player who has been extremely productive in high school. He will be an immediate deep threat as an outside receiver who has great speed and elite ball skills. I am very excited to add him to our talented wide receiver room."
SEBASTIAN ALONSO – LONG SNAPPER
Alonso is transferring from the University of Maryland. In high school, the long snapper attended Belen Jesuit High School in Miami, Florida, and was named to the 2019 and 2020 Florida District 24 All-District First Team while winning four-straight district titles. The Hoya newcomer also captured a pair of Academic All-District selections in 2019 and 2020. Alonso also played baseball, serving as the starting catcher and team captain.
"Sebastian fills a very much-needed position for us in this recruiting class. He is a very talented and proven snapper. He is extremely accurate. We are excited to have him join us and contribute right away."
