Fourth-Ranked Hoyas Fall 13-7 to No. 10 Denver in Top-10 Showdown

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's fourth-ranked men's lacrosse team dropped a 13-7 decision to No. 10 Denver in BIG EAST action in Colorado on Tuesday afternoon. The Hoyas drop to 4-1 overall, 3-1 in league play, while the Pioneers improve to 6-2 on the year and 4-0 in conference.
 
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Declan McDermott led the Hoyas with two goals and an assist for three points.
  • Jake Carraway and Graham Bundy Jr. each scored a pair of goals while TJ Haley and Dylan Hess both had two assists.
  • Peter Thompson also found the back of the net for the Blue & Gray.
  • In goal, Owen McElroy collected a season-high 12 saves between the pipes.
  • In a faceoff battle between the top two specialists in the BIG EAST, James Reilly won 11-of-23 faceoffs and hauled in four ground balls.
  • Defensively, Will Godine had a pair of caused turnovers to go with three ground balls while Hess added three GBs as well.
 
DENVER NOTES
  • Ethan Walker led the Pioneers with five points off of three goals and two assists.
  • Jack Hannah had four goals and Jackson Morrill added four assists.
  • In goal, Jack Thompson matched McElroy's 12 saves.
  • At the 'X', Alec Stathakis won 13-of-24 faceoffs and pulled in three ground balls.
 
OF NOTE
  • Reilly's 11 faceoff wins give him 290 in his three-year career, moving him into fifth place all-time at Georgetown.
  • The loss is the first for the Hoyas since a 19-16 setback to Yale in the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
  • Georgetown and Denver will meet again on Saturday, April 17 in Washington, D.C. as part of the BIG EAST's home-and-home scheduling this season.
 
NEXT FOR THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown remains on the road and travels to the Ocean State to take on Providence on Saturday, March 20 at 12 p.m.
