Men’s Lacrosse Returns to Winning Ways

WASHINGTON – Playing its second BIG EAST road game in five days, Georgetown University's fourth-ranked men's lacrosse team returned to its winning ways with a 14-9 victory at Providence on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Hoyas close out the first half of the league's home-and-home schedule with a 4-1 record and move to 5-1 overall on the year.

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Graham Bundy Jr. led the Hoyas with a career-high four goals while TJ Haley added six assists.
  • Jake Carraway posted a hat trick with three goals and Nicky Petkevich added two goals and an assist.
  • Colin Munro chipped in two goals while Zachary Geddes, Dylan Hess and Peter Thompson each found the back of the net for the Blue & Gray as well.
  • Defensively, the Hoyas held their fourth opponent of the season to fewer than 10 goals. Providence had just 14 shots on goal despite 41 total shots thanks to Georgetown's aggressive defense forcing low-percentage attempts all day.
  • Eight different Hoyas were credited with a caused turnover and 12 of GU's 33 ground balls came courtesy of long poles, including five from Will Tominovich.
  • In goal, Owen McElroy collected five saves between the pipes.
  • James Reilly dominated faceoffs yet again, winning 17-of-23 (.692) trips to the 'X'. He added a game-best 10 ground balls as well. With his 10 ground balls, he moves into ninth-place all-time at Georgetown with 193, passing Mike Kanach (1999-02) and current teammate Gibson Smith's 191.

PROVIDENCE NOTES
  • Toby Burgdorf has a solid game in net, collecting 20 saves in the loss. He is the first Hoya opponent to record 20 saves in a game since Vermont's John Kaplan also had 20 in an 18-10 Georgetown victory in 2015.
  • Matt Grillo and Tim Hinrichs led the Friars with two goals and an assist each.
  • Evan McGreen added two goals as well.

HALEY'S HELPERS
  • Haley recorded six assists for the second time this season, matching his total at Mount St. Mary's.
  • His six helpers tie his own career-high and are fourth-most in a single game in Georgetown history.
  • Haley becomes just the third player to notch at least six assists in two different games during his time on the Hilltop, joining Jim Nagle (7 vs. Richmond in 1982 and 6 vs. Catholic in 1984) and Reilly O'Connor (6 at Rutgers and vs. Providence, both in 2013) as the only Hoyas to achieve the feat.
  • In just six games this season, Haley has 24 total assists which is tied for 17th most in a season at Georgetown.

NEXT FOR THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown returns home to welcome No. 20 Villanova to the Hilltop on Saturday, March 27 at 3 p.m.
