WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Baseball Head Coach Edwin Thompson has announced that Greg Frady will join the program as a volunteer assistant coach. Frady brings more than 30 years of coaching experience at the collegiate and international levels
 
"Coach Frady is the perfect fit for our organization as he brings a wealth of experience, proven results and player development," said Thompson. "He is well-respected in the baseball community at the college and international level. Anytime you can add a great baseball coach and even better person to your team it is a huge bonus during this unique year, I know he will help our players each day get better and I am looking forward to working with him again."
 
Frady comes to the Hilltop after spending 13 seasons as the head coach at Georgia State where he amassed 370 wins, the most in program history. His Panther teams had six 30-win seasons, including four-consecutive years from 2008-11. Georgia State went 39-22 in Frady's third season in 2009, winning the CAA Championship and advancing to the NCAA Regionals.  
 
The Panthers enjoyed plenty of offensive success under Frady. His 2010 squad led the nation in runs per game and ranked third in batting average, while his 2013 Panthers had the nation's third-highest batting average, along with top-10 rankings in scoring, doubles, slugging and on-base percentage. In 2014, Georgia State ranked fourth in the nation in home runs and second in homers per game. Frady has had players recognized at every level, including three All-Americans, four Freshman All-Americans, three preseason All-Americans, six Academic All-Americans and 45 all-conference or all-rookie honorees.
 
The Georgia State baseball program also excelled in the classroom, consistently maintaining a team GPA over 3.0. The Panthers had six CoSIDA Academic All-America honorees and 13 CoSIDA Academic All-District selections in Frady's tenure.
 
Along with his duties at Georgia State, Frady spent 11 years as the head coach of the German National Team, where he won more than 100 games in international competition from 2004-14, including wins over China and the United States in 2009. Germany finished just two games shy of qualifying for the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and had two fourth-place finishes at the European Championships (2005, 2012). He was named the European Coach of the Year in 2010 and, in July 2016, he was inducted into the German Baseball and Softball Hall of Fame.
 
Three players that he coached in Germany – Donald Lutz (Reds), Max Keppler (Twins) and Aaron Altherr (Phillies) – have gone on to play Major League Baseball. Overall, more than 100 of his former players have been drafted or signed professional contracts, and 10 have gone on to suit up in the major leagues.
 
Prior to being named head coach at Georgia State, Frady was the Panther's associate head coach for two seasons following seven years as the associate head coach at Central Florida. He helped guide UCF to four 40-win seasons and four appearances in the NCAA Tournament. The Knights won three regular season conference championships and three tournament titles, while earning a top-25 ranking in each of his seven seasons.
 
Before UCF, Frady spent six seasons as the head coach at North Florida Community College, earning 187 victories. During his tenure, the team broke the school record for wins in a season four times in six years. Frady started his coaching career at Columbus State in 1988, where he served as an assistant for three seasons before being named interim head coach in the summer of 1990.
 
Frady played collegiately at Troy State and helped the Trojans reach the Division II World Series twice. In 1986, his team won the national championship and was later named the best Division II team of all-time at the 1997 Division II College World Series. Frady received his bachelor's degree in education and recreation from Troy State in 1987 and earned a master's degree in administration from Columbus State in 1989.
