WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's
James Reilly won 26 of 30 faceoffs in the fourth-ranked men's lacrosse team's 20-13 victory over visiting Marquette on Saturday, setting the program record for single game faceoff wins. The Hoyas improve to 4-0 on the season, and 3-0 in BIG EAST play, while scoring 20 goals for the first time this year.
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- Georgetown snapped a four-game losing streak to the Golden Eagles (0-3, 0-3 BIG EAST).
- Each of the previous four losses had come by just one goal.
- Georgetown trailed 5-3 after the first quarter, and was tied 8-8 at the half, before a 9-2 third frame broke open the game.
- Dylan Hess had four goals and an assist, Jake Carraway and Nicky Petkevich each had three goals and two assists, Graham Bundy Jr. chipped in three goals to go with an assist and Declan McDermott also posted a hat trick.
- TJ Haley quarterbacked the offense with a goal and five assists, giving the freshman 11 total assists in his last two games.
- Peter Thompson, Zachary Geddes and Colin Munro each added lone goals for the Blue & Gray as well.
- Georgetown dominated the 'X', winning 30 of 36 faceoffs on the day. James Reilly won a career-best 26 of 30 (.867) faceoffs and led all players with 16 ground balls.
- In goal, Owen McElroy (4-0) picked up the victory behind 10 saves and four ground balls.
MARQUETTE NOTES
- Ryan Fazio led the Golden Eagles (0-3, 0-3 BIG EAST) with four goals, Devon Cowan had three goals to go with an assist and Griffin Fleming chipped in two goals and had a team-high three assists.
- Woodward Mason collected eight ground balls and Gabe Stein (0-1) had 10 saves in the loss between the pipes.
REILLY'S RECORD DAY
- Reilly's 26 faceoff wins sets a single game program record for the Hoyas.
- His previous personal best was 22 wins against No. 16/14 Villanova during his freshman season in 2019.
- Reilly's 16 ground balls are the most in a game for a Georgetown player since All-American Tyler Knarr collected 18 against Furman in 2014.
OF NOTE
- Georgetown's 20 goals are the most the Hoyas have ever scored in a conference game, including as a member of the BIG EAST (2010-present) and the ECAC (2000-09)
- The victory 20-13 was just the 21st time the Hoyas have scored 20 goals or more in a game in program history.
