McElroy, Reilly Collect BIG EAST Weekly Honors

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's Owen McElroy and James Reilly were named the BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player and Midfielder of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office on Tuesday. The duo helped propel the Hoyas to a thrilling 11-10 overtime victory over then-No. 6 Denver on Saturday.

  • Named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season.
  • Posted a season-high 14 saves against Denver, his fifth double-digit showing of the year.
  • Earned his ninth win of the season between the pipes.
  • In Georgetown's 11-10 victory, held the Pioneers' high-scoring offense (15.00 goals per game) to just 2/3 of their average output.
  • Added a pair of assists as well.
  • Continues to lead the nation in goals-against average (7.43).
 
James Reilly, Jr., FO, Berwyn, Pa.
  • Named BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week for the second time this season.
  • Won 16-of-24 faceoffs (.667) and added a game-high nine ground balls in the 11-10 overtime win.
  • Cleanly won the clamp in OT to put the Hoyas in position for its first regular season victory over Denver.
  • Took every faceoff against two of the top FOGOs in the nation and won 14 of the final 16 faceoffs of the game.
 
Georgetown remains home to host Providence on Saturday, April 24 at 2:30 p.m. The showdown will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
