Hoyas Travel to GW Wednesday to Start Long Road Swing

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team opens a stretch of 15-straight road games as the Hoyas step out of BIG EAST play on Wednesday for a nonconference, midweek matchup at George Washington. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Barcroft Park in Arlington, Virginia. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but was moved back one day.

LAST TIME OUT

·        The Hoyas wrapped up a weekend series against Creighton with an exciting 3-2 win in 10 innings on Sunday. Andrew Ciufo lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score AJ Lotsis, the 10th-inning designated runner, for the winning run.

·        Lotsis hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to tie the game.

·        Nolan McCarthy pitched 8.0 innings, a season high for the Hoyas. He allowed just two runs on six hits while striking out seven and not walking a batter.

·        Chase Walter fired 2.0 scoreless innings in relief for the win.

 

ABOUT THE HOYAS

·        Georgetown enters Wednesday's matchup with 4-8 overall record, having just completed a nine-game homestand.

·        Conor Nolan leads the team with a .323 batting average and has a team-high three stolen bases.

·        Lotsis is hitting .273 with a team-high 12 base hits and has six RBIs.

·        Christian Ficca is one of five Hoyas to have homered and has driven in a team-leading seven RBIs.  

·        The pitching staff owns a 5.36 ERA, holding opponents to .249 batting average, and has recorded 99 strikeouts in 99.0 innings.

·        McCarthy has team highs of 18.1 innings pitched and 22 strikeouts.

 

SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON

·        George Washington comes in with a 16-10 record and has a .300 team batting average, scoring 6.5 runs per game.

·        Steve Barmakian is batting .392 with a team-high nine doubles. Noah Levin is hitting .364 with a team-best 26 RBIs and is one of three players with three home runs.

·        The Colonials have a team ERA of 4.91 and have 214 strikeouts in 218 innings. Opponents are hitting .277 against GW with 12 home runs and 46 doubles.

 

SERIES HISTORY

·        The Hoyas are 30-27 all-time against their local rivals, but GW has taken three of the last four matchups since the start of 2018.

·        In last year's meeting, the Colonials came away with a 3-2 win in Arlington, Virginia. Yareb Martinez led the GU offense with a pair of hits and on RBI.

·        The Hoyas will travel to Seton Hall this weekend for a four-game, three-game BIG EAST series. First pitch on Friday is set for 3 p.m., and the teams will play a doubleheader Saturday (noon) and a single game Sunday (noon).
