Men’s Lacrosse Tops St. John’s 20-7 to Complete Season Sweep

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's 10th-ranked men's lacrosse team picked up another BIG EAST victory with a 20-7 win at St. John's on Saturday afternoon. The Hoyas improve to 7-1 overall, 6-1 in league play, while the Red Storm drop to 1-5 overall and 0-5 in conference action.
 
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Four different Hoyas posted at least six points in the win.
  • Jake Carraway had five goals and a pair of assists while Dylan Watson, making his season debut, tallied four goals with three assists.
  • TJ Haley continued his presence as an elite distributor with his third six-assist game of the season while Graham Bundy Jr. scored a career-high six goals from the midfield.
  • Declan McDermott added a goal and two assists while Nicky Petkevich dished out a pair of assists as well.
  • Georgetown also got lone goals from Mason Bonnie, Jack Kelly, James Reilly and Peter Thompson while Dylan Hess, Chase Llewellyn, Brandon Meaux, Colin Munro and Kevin Petrillo all tallied assists.
  • Defensively, the Hoyas held their sixth opponent of the season to fewer than 10 goals and St. John's had just 14 shots on target all day.
  • Wallace Halpert led the Hoyas with a pair of caused turnovers and added six ground balls, Will Tominovich had four ground balls and both Joe LiCalzi and Jack Leary were credited with a caused turnover along with three ground balls each.
  • In goal, Owen McElroy collected 7 saves between the pipes and allowed just four goals in three quarters of action.
  • At the 'X', the Hoyas won 18-of-29 (.620) faceoffs with Reilly going 9-for-16 (.562) with eight ground balls.
 
ST. JOHN'S NOTES
  • Joe Madsen led the Red Storm with a goal and two assists. No St. John's player scored more than one goal in the game.
  • In goal, Brody Agres and Ronald Durante combined for 18 saves with Agres pulling in 13 in just over 35 minutes of action.
 
OF NOTE
  • The Hoyas complete the regular season sweep over St. John's following a 19-1 win on the Hilltop in February.
  • Haley recorded six assists for the third time this season, the only Hoya in program to ever do it three times. He now has 33 assists on the year, moving into sole possession of third place in the single-season record books.
  • Reilly's eight ground balls give him 202 for his career, making him just the eighth Hoya to reach 200 in program history.
  • Georgetown scored 20 goals for the second time this season, matching the most goals scored in a BIG EAST or ECAC conference game. It is the 22nd time the Hoyas have scored at least 20 goals in a game all-time.
 
NEXT FOR THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown plays its fourth road game in its last five contests with a Midwest swing to face Marquette on Saturday, April 10 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at 12 p.m. EST.
