WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team opens BIG EAST play this weekend, traveling to Storrs, Connecticut for a four-game, three-day series at UConn. The two teams will open the weekend on Friday night at 6 p.m. before playing a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon. Sunday's series finale will begin at 1 p.m.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
- Georgetown opened the season on Wednesday night, falling 13-4 to VCU at Shirley Povich Field.
- Andrew Ciufo came off the bench and went 2-for-2, including a pinch-hit home run in his first career at-bat. He finished with a team-high three RBIs.
- Matt Stone also homered, while Conor Nolan, making his Georgetown debut, had two hits including a double.
- Andrew DeRoche and Carter Bosch fired scoreless innings of relief, while Bosch and Nolan McCarthy each had two strikeouts.
- Thirty-one players got into the game for the Hoyas, including 11 pitchers and 20 position players. Seven Hoyas made their collegiate debut and five more made their first appearance in a GU uniform.
- It was Georgetown's first game under head coach Edwin Thompson.
- Graduate student AJ Lotsis and senior Eddie McCabe were both named to the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team
- Catcher Matt Stone was named to the watch list for the 2021 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, given annually to the top Division I collegiate catcher.
SCOUTING UCONN
- UConn comes into the weekend with a 14-12 overall record, having won five-straight games and nine of the past 10. The Huskies defeated Bryant 9-8 on Tuesday.
- BIG EAST Co-Preseason Player of the Year Kyler Fedko leads UConn with a .392 batting average and has hit five home runs to go along with nine doubles and 24 RBIs.
- His brother, Christian, his batting .314 with a team-high 10 doubles. Reggie Crawford has a BIG EAST-leading eight home runs and 32 RBIs.
- As a team, UConn is batting .284 with 27 home runs while averaging 6.8 runs per game. The pitching staff has a 4.34 ERA and has struck out 282 batters, to just 110 walks, in 230 innings.
SERIES HISTORY
- The two longtime BIG EAST rivals have met 59 times, with UConn holding a 42-17 series advantage.
- The last matchup came in 2013 when the Huskies won two-of-three in a conference series at Shirley Povich Field.
