Track & Field / Cross Country Program Adds Kaymarie Jones to the Staff

WASHINGTON – Director of Track & Field / Cross Country Alton McKenzie added Kaymarie Jones to his staff, as announced on Thursday. Jones will serve as an associate head coach for the track & field / cross country program, working directly with the sprints, hurdles and jumps groups.

"Coach Jones will be a tremendous addition to our coaching staff," McKenzie said. "Her expertise across multiple events will be an added value that will help us continue expanding our presence across multiple event groups. I look forward to having her join the Hoya family and seeing her immediate impact."

Jones comes to the Hilltop after a three-year stint at Winston-Salem State University, where she served as the head cross country / track & field coach since the summer of 2018. Her experience and energy will be an asset to the program and continue its recent strides in the sprints, jumps and hurdles.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to join Georgetown University and become a part of such a diversity-valued institution," Jones said. "The Hoyas have a distinctive and distinguished cross country and track & field history and I am overly excited to stand on the Hilltop as a part of this program. Coach McKenzie is a highly respected leader who influences and motivates athletes to graduate as champions. With his strong leadership and commitment to develop student-athletes to become better citizens, I could not be more proud of my decision to work for a director who encourages the student-first phenomenon."

Jones made a quick impact for the Rams as she led the team to the 2019 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championship and helped to guide a pair of qualifiers to the 2019 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships. At the 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, Jones' squad qualified a 400-meter relay team along with an individual qualifier.

Despite the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons affected because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jones continued to see strides from her athletes. During the 2020 indoor season, the Rams earned an All-America distinction in the 60-meter dash from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

"I am thankful that George Knox and James Dubose gave me an opportunity to lead the Rams at Winston-Salem State University and I am most appreciative of the students, chancellor, alumni, donors, and current athletic staff for an unforgettable HBCU experience," Jones said.

Prior to Winston-Salem State, Jones spent three years as an assistant coach at New Mexico Highlands University, serving as an assistant coach with the Cowgirls.  During her tenure with the program, she helped NMHU rank seventh in the nation in 2018 with eight All-Americans. The team also won a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championship where her student-athletes swept the women's triple jump and won the women's 200-meter dash, long jump, and the 4 x100-meter relay. For her efforts, Jones was honored as the USTFCCCA South Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year.

Prior to joining the coaching staff at New Mexico Highlands, Jones served as a volunteer coach at Clemson as well as coaching stints at Adams State and Wingate University.  She is a 2013 graduate of Adams State University and she holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Adams State (2014) as well.
