Hoyas to Play in Pair of Nationally Televised Games this Weekend

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will have a pair of nationally-televised games this weekend as the Hoyas face the Marquette Golden Eagles on Friday and the No. 10/11 UConn Huskies on Sunday. Friday's contest will also be Senior Day for the Blue & Gray at McDonough Arena with the game tipping off at 7 p.m. on FS2. Sunday at XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut will tip at 2 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (7-15, 2-12 BIG EAST) is coming off of a devastating 105-104 double overtime loss to the DePaul Blue Demons on Sunday afternoon at McDonough Arena.
  • The Hoyas led for much of the game, but after two overtime periods it was DePaul that scraped by with the victory.
  • Sophomore Kelsey Ransom led the way with a career-high 29 points to go along with nine boards and three steals.
  • Georgetown boasted five players in double figures with senior Shanniah Wright and freshman Ariel Jenkins having career days scoring 18 and 13 points, respectively.
  • Graduate student Milan Bolden-Morris tallied 18 points, and Jillian Archer managed her fourth double-double of the season on 14 points and 15 rebounds.
  • The Hoyas shot an impressive 51.2% (42-82) from the field and allowed 46.8% (36-77) shooting by the Blue Demons.
  • Georgetown outrebounded DePaul 45-38, and the GU defense forced 15 Blue Demon turnovers.
  • The 100-point performance was a milestone for the Hoyas as Georgetown has not had a 100-point game since defeating Mount St. Mary's 104-80 on November 24, 1998.
  • On Monday, Ransom was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as announced by the league office. Ransom had a big week for the Hoyas averaging 17.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists.
  • The Hoyas have two players averaging in double figures for the season as Bolden-Morris and Ransom both have 12.9 ppg, respectively. Archer and junior Graceann Bennett round out the top four averaging 8.8 and 7.5 ppg, respectively.
  • Archer is also pulling down a squad-best 7.5 rpg.
About the Golden Eagles
  • Marquette is 17-8 on the season and 10-6 in BIG EAST Conference play.
  • The Golden Eagles are coming off of a tough 77-66 loss to RV DePaul on Wednesday evening in Chicago.
  • Leading the way for Marquette is Lauren Van Kleunen with 13.4 ppg to go along with a team-best 6.7 rpg.
  • She is followed by Karissa McLaughlin and Jordan King boasting 12.3 and 11.8 ppg, respectively.
Series History
  • The Hoyas are 4-23 all-time against the Golden Eagles and 3-10 at home.
  • Earlier this season, the squads met in Milwaukee with Georgetown falling by a score of 68-32.
  • Freshman Kaliyah Myricks led the way with six points for the Hoyas, while Bennett pulled in a squad-best seven rebounds to go along with four points.
  • GU's last home victory over Marquette was an 85-58 triumph during the 2017-18 campaign.
About the Huskies
  • UConn is 17-5 on the season and 11-1 in BIG EAST Conference play.
  • The Huskies are coming off of a 72-58 victory at Marquette on Sunday as Azzi Fudd led the way with 24 points in the victory. Fudd's mother Katie Smrcka-Duffy played at Georgetown in the late 1990's.
  • Leading the way for UConn is Christyn Williams with 15.2 ppg following by Fudd  and Caroline Ducharme averaging 12.9 and 12.6 ppg, respectively.
  • UConn will travel to Xavier for a Friday night matchup before taking on the Hoyas on Sunday.
Series History
  • The Hoyas are 6-47 all-time against the Huskies and 4-20 at home.
  • The first meeting for this season was canceled due to COVID-19 so the squads will only meet once this year.
  • Last year, the teams played twice with UConn winning 64-40 at McDonough Arena and 72-41 on the road.
  • The last Georgetown victory was a 64-62 decision in Connecticut in 1993 when Georgetown Associate Head Coach Niki Reid Geckeler hit the game winner at the buzzer.
