WASHINGTON – After winning its first road nonconference series since 2014, the Georgetown University baseball team will look to ride its success into a pair of midweek contests against UMBC and Maryland Eastern Shore. The Hoyas will face UMBC in their home opener at Shirley Povich Field on Tuesday, March 1 with first pitch slated for 3 p.m. before heading to Salisbury, Maryland on Wednesday, March 2 for a 2 p.m. contest.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
- Georgetown enters the week with a 3-3 record after taking two of three from 2021 NCAA Regional qualifier Norfolk State. The Hoyas fell in Friday's pitching duel (2-1) before knocking off the Spartans, 6-2 and 15-7, respectively in the final two games.
- Andrew Ciufo put forth a 5-for-11 performance in Norfolk, slashing .455/.571/.636 with four tallies, two RBIs and a pair of doubles in three starts. Through six games, the Hoya shortstop is batting .391 and has driven in a team-high nine runs.
- Jake Hyde has been effective in his six appearances, hitting .381 with a team-leading three doubles to go along with four runs scored and a pair of RBIs.
- Five Hoya relievers have made at least two appearances and have yet to surrender a run this season. The fivesome has combined for 16.1 innings of work, surrendering six hits and striking out 22. Angelo Tonas and Andrew Williams pace the group with eight punchouts apiece in 10.1 frames combined.
- The Hoyas have been patient at the dish, working a BIG EAST-leading 36 walks while trailing only UConn in on-base percentage (.371) and runs (42). Georgetown also ranks second averaging an 11.2 K/9 rate.
SCOUTING UMBC
- The Retrievers enter Tuesday's game having lost two of three to Saint Joseph's over the weekend, moving to 1-5 on the year.
- The Hoyas and UMBC will square off for the first time since 2019, winning both contests that season, 6-2, and 4-3, respectively.
- UMBC is led offensively by Myles Nicholson with a .480 batting average to go along with nine runs scored, seven RBIs and four multi-hit games. He also rides a six-game hitting streak.
- As a team, Retriever pitching has struggled with a 7.98 ERA while the opposition is batting .288.
SCOUTING MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE
- The Eagles have lost seven straight to open the 2022 campaign, dropping three to Longwood and four to Albany.
- UMES has three players batting over .300 with Ryan Howe leading the way with a .353 BA.
- The opposition is hitting .349 against the Eagles.
- Georgetown and Maryland Eastern Shore will face each other for the first time since 2020 with the Hoyas besting the Eagles, 7-4, on Feb. 26. GU is on a six-game winning streak against the Eagles.
