No. 5/6 Hoyas Travel to Face Richmond

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team looks to bounce back from its first loss of the season as it travels to face Richmond on Saturday, March 12 at noon. The No. 5/6 Hoyas are 4-1 on the season and have played four nationally-ranked opponents while the Spiders are 3-2 overall and are receiving votes in both polls.
 
About Georgetown
  • The Hoyas are coming off a 1-1 week that included a 21-4 victory against Mount St. Mary's and a 10-8 setback to then-No. 18 Princeton.
  • Last time out against the Tigers, Alex Trippi led the Blue & Gray with four goals while Dylan Watson and Graham Bundy Jr. both added a pair.
  • James Reilly had another solid day at the X, winning 16 of 22 (.727) faceoffs and collected 11 ground balls.
  • In goal, Owen McElroy collected 16 saves, including eight in the second quarter, for a .615 save percentage en route to his third BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week nod this season.
  • Watson paces the Hoyas with 18 points (16G, 2A) on the year with Bundy hot on his trail with 17 points (10G, 7A). Trippi adds 15 points (8G, 7A) while Connor Morin rounds out the Hoyas in double digits with 10 points (7G, 3A).
  • Reilly has won 69 of 103 (.669) faceoffs on the year and leads the Hoyas with 50 ground balls, ranking third nationally in GBs per game with 10 an outing.
  • Will Bowen has been credited with 10 caused turnovers so far this season, Alex Mazzone has four and Wallace Halpert, Gibson Smith IV and Will Tominovich have each tallied three.
  • In goal, Owen McElroy has been a brick wall, posting an 8.44 goals-against average to go with 71 saves and a .651 save percentage. His GAA is seventh best in the nation and his save percentage ranks second in the NCAA.
Scouting Richmond
  • The Spiders are 3-2 on the season with wins over Marist, Towson (in triple overtime) and St. Bonaventure.
  • Richmond's only two losses for the Spiders came against top-10 foes, a 13-9 loss to then-No. 4 North Carolina and a 14-8 setback last time out against 10th-ranked Duke.
  • Ryan Lanchbury leads Richmond with 25 points (11G, 14A), Dalton Young adds 18 (12G, 6A) and both Luke Frankeny (12G, 4A) and Lance Madonna (11G, 5A) have 16 points each.
  • In goal, Devin Craven has started all five games for the Spiders and has a 9.57 GAA to go with 65 saves and a .607 save percentage.
Series History
  • Georgetown is 3-0 all-time against Richmond.
  • All three wins came in the early 1980's before the Spiders reestablished their program in 2014.
