WASHINGTON – Georgetown University men's golf senior
Will O'Neill was named Second Team All-BIG EAST on Monday, as announced by the league office. O'Neill and the Hoyas currently sit in seventh place with an opening round score of 295 (+7) at the BIG EAST Championship, Presented by JEEP in Pine Mountain, Georgia.
Round 1 Results
- Brad Whitaker leads the Blue & Gray with an opening round score of 68 (-4) to sit tied for third overall.
- O'Neill is tied for 25th with a 74 (+2), Jacob Finard is tied for 35th at 76 (+4) and Charlie Creamean rounds out Georgetown's scoring to sit tied for 40th with a 77 (+5).
- Pieter DeGroot also posted a 78 (+6) to tie for 43rd overall.
Overall Standings
- Marquette leads the field with a 281 (-7) followed by Butler's 286 (-2) and UConn's 287 (-1) as the only teams under par after 18 holes.
- Creighton and Seton Hall are both tied for fourth with 288 (E) after shooting even on Monday.
- Xavier's 294 (+6), Georgetown's 295 (+7), DePaul and Villanova's matching 296 (+8) and St. John's with 298 (+10) round out the field.
O'Neill earns Second Team All-BIG EAST honors after posting a 72.21 stroke average during his senior year. His scoring average topped the Hoyas and was ninth best in the league this season.
