Hoyas Travel to Villanova for Regular Season Finale

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's second-ranked men's lacrosse team travels to Villanova on Friday night in the BIG EAST regular season finale at 7 p.m. The winner of the game between the Hoyas and the Wildcats clinches the top seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Championship, Presented by JEEP.
 
About Georgetown
  • The Hoyas are 12-1 overall, 4-0 in the BIG EAST, and coming off a 23-6 victory over St. John's for the most goals scored in a BIG EAST game in program history.
  • Against the Red Storm, Dylan Watson led the Hoyas with four goals and an assist, TJ Haley posted three goals to go with two assists while Connor Morin recorded a hat trick as well.
  • Declan McDermott became the 29th player in program history to reach the 100 career point mark with his lone goal of the game.
  • The Hoyas went 26 for 33 (.788) at the faceoff 'X' with James Reilly and Matthew Riley both going 11 for 13 (.846) and Carson Milburn winning 4 of 7 (.571) on the day. Reilly added a game-high nine ground balls while Riley had six en route to being named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
  • Defensively, the Hoyas recorded 11 caused turnovers with Will Bowen credited with two despite playing just the first half and Wallace Halpert adding another pair. In goal, Owen McElroy hauled in six saves and allowed just two goals in 30 minutes of action.
  • On the season, Watson paces the Hoyas with 55 points (50G, 5A) and leads the NCAA in goals per game (3.85) while Graham Bundy Jr. (33G, 18A) is hot on his trail with 51. Alex Trippi adds 43 points (21G, 22A) while Haley (7G, 27A), Morin (21G, 8A) and McDermott (22G, 6A) chip in 34, 29 and 28 points, respectively. Dylan Hess (12G, 4A) has 16 points and Colin Munro (6G, 4A) adds 10 to round out the Hoyas in double digits.
  • Reilly has won 186 of 292 (.637) faceoffs on the year and leads the Hoyas with 112 ground balls. He is only the second player in program history to eclipse 100 ground balls in a season twice.
  • Bowen has been credited with 27 caused turnovers so far this season, fifth most in a single campaign on the Hilltop, while Alex Mazzone has 17 and Gibson Smith IV has 14.
  • In goal, McElroy has been a brick wall, posting an 8.14 goals-against average to go with 119 saves and a .626 save percentage. His GAA and save percentage rank first and second-best in the nation, respectively.
Scouting Villanova
  • The Wildcats are 8-4 on the season, 3-1 in the BIG EAST, and are coming off of a 10-8 victory against league foe Marquette last Saturday.
  • Luke Keating leads Villanova with 54 points (26G, 28A) while Matt Campbell adds 53 points (36G, 17A) and Brett Baskin chips in 42 points (26G, 16A).
  • Justin Coppola is Villanova's top faceoff man, winning .611 (192-314) on the season to go with 109 ground balls.
  • Defensively, Chet Comizio has been credited with 22 caused turnovers and adds 41 ground balls.
  • In goal, Will Vitton has started all 12 games between the pipes and has an 11.29 GAA to go with 133 saves and a .504 save percentage.
Series History
  • Georgetown and Villanova have met 28 times since 1971 with the Wildcats owning a 20-18 series advantage.
  • The Hoyas have won seven of the last 10 meetings, including six-straight since 2018.
  • Georgetown won all three meetings in 2021, a 16-1 victory on the Main Line to open the season, a last-minute game-winner from Villanova native Jack Leary for an 8-7 win on the Hilltop and a 14-12 slugfest in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship in Providence, Rhode Island.
